Mario 25th Anniversary Release heading to Europe – SA too?

Mario is 25 years old. I’m totally older than him, but I don’t get a fancy 25th Anniversary commemorative release, he does. That’s ok, he deserves it after all that trouble he goes to rescuing Peach over and over and over again. What a trooper.

The lovely looking Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition box set was initially a Japan-only release and goes on sale in the country on 21 October 2010. Now, a Swedish website has reported that the collector’s box set will be arriving in Europe as well. Their claim has since been backed up by a full press-release confirming the Anniversary Edition for a Europe-wide release on 03 December 2010.

Great news then as the Anniversary Edition includes a re-mastered version of Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii. All-Stars was initially a Super Nintendo compilation and included Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. The Anniversary Edition will come with all of those early Mario games, a history book detailing the Mario franchise from 1985 to 2010, as well as a soundtrack CD loaded with classic and contemporary Mario tunes.

What are the odds of this arriving in South Africa? Pretty good now that a European release has been confirmed. Come on Core! Make sure we get this please! I will pick up a copy in a heartbeat, even though I technically don’t even have a Wii of my own; I just like the fact that there’s years of childhood nostalgia wrapped up in a neat little package for safekeeping. Is that weird?
