Mario25th

On September 13, 1985 the first super Mario Bros game was released in Japan. While our favourite goomba-stomping plumber got his start a little earlier – in 1981’s Donkey Kong, it was Super Mario Bros that sent the world’s most famous video game character down the princess-saving path he’d continue for the next 25 years.

So Happy 25th Birthday, Mario!

It’s difficult to state just how important is to gaming. The success of Super Mario Bros nearly single-moustachedly dragged the gaming industry from the slumps of the infamous videogame crash of 1983. Mario has gone on to become the most recognisable, and profitable, mascot in gaming. not only that, but his games have been some of the most critically acclaimed games over the last 5 generations of consoles.

If they continue to be as good as New super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy, I’ll be happy to play them for another 25 years.

Super Mario Bros 3  – nearly 20 years later – still excites me. It’s a brilliantly designed game, and has moulded and shaped me in to the Nintendo-loving gamer I am today. I recently got the opportunity to meet Charles Martine, the voice of Mario, and that stands as another highlight in my completely heterosexual 25 year Mario love affair.

What’s your favourite Mario memory?

Mario first appeared under the name “Mario” in the 1983 arcade game Mario Bros.

Mario Bros. was originally released on June 1, 1983. So, looks like you got the year as well as the month, and day wrong?
