An animated look at the history of Nintendo

Nintender

The Wii U is out now everywhere but Japan – odd considering it’s a Japanese console. Still, no better time than to take a brief look at Nintendo’s long history in console and handheld gaming – and no better way that this delightful video from animators Anthony Veloso and Quentin Dron.

It’s a wonderful, artistic look at Nintendo history – though there are a few omissions I noticed, notable the pre-famicom Color Game TV, the god-awful Virtual Boy and the Gameboy Advance SP. They also erroneously imply that the Wii U Gamepad is multi-touch, but we’ll but that down to artistic licence.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
