Zombie apocalypse? Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, also got a strange bite-mark from what I presume to be a radioactive Scotsman and now I’ve got the tummy-rumblies for raw meat and graaaaaiiiins in my cereal. Also, brains. By now, you’ve played every single kind of zombie apocalypse out there, from Left 4 Dead to Dying Light. But have you ever played out the end of days…in virtual reality?

That’s the idea behind Arizona Sunshine, which will pit players against the hordes of undead infesting that US of A state, using Valves virtually real headset, the HTC Vive. “Arizona Sunshine poses a two-fold battle for survival in a VR zombie apocalypse in which players need to navigate the hordes of zombies coming for their brains as well as the scorching heat that they will come to hate in their search for human contact,” according to the description from Vertigo Games. AGB has the videos and screens down below:

Arizona Sunshine will also have a custom-built physical animation system, in order to make attacking an ankle-biter that bit more realistic. According to the press notes, it’ll also have:

  • Room-space VR – Step into the midst of a zombie attack as if you were really there and defend yourself against enemies close enough to touch. Arizona Sunshine is a shooter built and optimized for VR from the ground up.
  • Motion-controlled weapon handling – With HTC Vive’s motion controllers in room-scale VR, handling, firing and reloading your guns never felt so realistic. Anticipate attacks, manage your ammo and consumables, and aim down the sights to blast your enemies to undead pieces.
  • Short and Sweet – The game is built in Bite-sized chunks that flow together to form the complete picture. Whether you want to jump in for a few minutes or stay in the virtual zombie apocalypse for the entire ride, we’ve got you covered.

It sounds interesting enough, but this is one kind of game that I’d rather see in action first, than commit to. It’s called the Steel Battalion Effect.  Coincidentally, Zoe happens to be in Arizona right now. It was nice knowing her then.

I should have become a psychologist. I sense a golden age for those who can help people deal with PTSD coming on.

haha, I have been thinking about such things myself. What happens when some idiot teens puts something like this on his 6 year old sibling for ‘teh lulz’?
What will happen if a paranoid schizophrenic plays these games?
Not to mention what effect does having light being beamed directly into your eyes for hours on end do to them.

Don’t get me wrong I am super keen for VR, but I think these things need to be considered.
