The announcement of The Witcher 3 is probably one of the best things that could have happened this year and now some of the plot details have been revealed.

In a video on Game Informer Lead writer Marcin Blacha and senior writer Borys Pugacz Muraszkiewicz talk about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the transition between The Witcher 2 and 3. Players will see familiar faces from The Witcher 2, in different situations than in The Witcher 2, following on a war.

They also speak about Geralt’s search for a mysterious “long lost love”, as if this guy is ever NOT looking for his girl eh? The game will be about Geralt’s personal nemesis, instead of Geralt always trying to escape. Although there will be a threat present, an evil force threatening the safety of the “human race”. Geralt as a protagonist will be depicted as a mature man, no longer a young guy looking for adventure, but rather thinking of the more important things in life. Watching the video, it’s easy to deduct that the game is once again aimed at a more mature audience. Check out the full interview here, but be warned if you didn’t finish The Witcher 2 yet, it may contain spoilers of the ending.

Here are some quotes from a press release too

“The captivating and non-linear story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place in a rich, truly open-world environment. A world which is thrilling to explore, full of daring adventures, momentous quests, memorable characters, and unique monsters. Players will freely travel through woods, lakes, mountains, cities and villages. Each region is inhabited by distinct populations with their own customs, legends and problems.  The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is 30 times bigger than The Witcher 2,” said Adam Badowski, head of the studio.

“Imagine playing a dark fantasy game with the same great non-linear story as in the previous Witcher titles, but now told in a world you can explore freely with no artificial boundaries. The war-ravaged world is so huge that to reach farther places you will need to ride a horse or sail a boat to get there. A world where your choices have truly epic consequences. From the development side, this goal is extremely demanding. Our team had to make significant design changes and our tech had to be rebuilt. But we believe that this will lead to a completely new level of non-linearity and a whole new, richer gaming experience. As a gamer, I would love to play this kind of RPG, and I think this is what many players are waiting for. This is our dream come true at CD Projekt RED, and we hope it will be the same for you!” he added.

I recently reinstalled it. Must get round to playing it buy Skyrim is taking all my limited gaming time at the moment. But definitely worth it! It’s such a nice challenging RPG. Quite difficult at first, but hang in there.

On a side note, is Game of Thrones worthy of a playthrough?

Sounds like a mix between Skyrim and Guild Wars 2 (without always online single player nonsense). I’m in.
