Watch this 1993 Doom screenshot transform into 2013

When Doom was released way back in 1993 it wasn’t quite hyper-realistic but it was still pretty impressive as far as gaming went in those days. However it hasn’t really aged well and so a Deviant Art user, Elemental79, decided to spend 35 hours touching up an old screenshot to bring it into 2013.

He has very kindly recorded the process and you can now be amazed at 35 hours of work in just over 9 minutes! It really is pretty incredible.

Or if you don’t have 9 minutes to spend then here is the simplistic before-and-after screenshot.

In my opinion, you’s be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t watch the video.

Doom

I don’t think I’m alone in wanting Doom to be re-done with this aesthetic.

Hey i do, still have all them discs. BTW, The PS finally got the BFG edition and then lo and behold, the PS store released all of the Doom games for a paltry 150 odd. These include the Plutonia Experiment, Doom I, Doom II, Final Doom, Ultimate Doom, The Master levels etc. Still very blocky, but the “grandfather” of FPS still lives.

I began the thought “What have I been doing with my life that I cannot do that?”, then I realized, I hate photoshop with a passion. Spent more than an hour in the program and steam comes out my ears.

I prefer the old screenshot.. Atleast there I have more ammo and armor.. On the new remake, you don’t even have enough ammo to kill the monster 🙂

Heh that video is impressive as all hell.

But it also really needs an epilepsy warning or some shit, because watching it made my brain hurt something wicked.

@Gavin: I would love a remastered version. But the problem is nobody is going to play it since you can carry more than 2 weapons, your health doesn’t recharge, and there is no auto save options. Also no pics of Jason and Alex to whack off too.

Doom 1 and 2 bred a whole generation of psychotic killers. 48+ hours of non-stop playing, continues flashing lights, continues growling noises, 13″ CRT screen radiation ….
