For a game that is all about being an unseen hitman of ye olden times, Assassin’s Creed has never quite managed to really pull off the stealth factor. Sure, it’s been there all along, but it’s always felt a bit clumsy, sitting there like an elephant in the room wearing a white hood. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag may not be overhauling that gameplay mechanic entirely, but at least it looks like it’s making it more streamlined.
IGN has the latest behind-the-scenes video, in which game director Ashraf Ismail guides players on a tour of assassinations, explosions and under dah sea dat’s where it’s bettah undah da seeeeeaaa. Crap, I’m drifting.
As I said, nothing revolutionary, but the process of throwing a knife into the face of a nameless Spaniard is looking a touch more fluid at least. And sweet Da Vinci, look at those jungle visuals. One thing that had me at odds with Assassin’s Creed 3 was that it had visuals that were fantastic, yet drab at the same time.
But the Caribbean looks better than a Disney Pirates movie in this game. AND HOLY CRAP, DID EDWARD JUST STEALTH HIS WAY PAST A SHARK?
Advanced fish-sneaking AI and buccaneers the game, or Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, will be out in October.

No leave the fish and get a dog. At least he can sniff out your target and then ubisoft can boast how they animated him with live video while holding a bone in front of him.

Sad to think that “cutting edge next gen tech” is fish swimming away

Now I understand why it’s called Black Flag. The white skull & crossbones are sold separately.

I never thought of that. Scary thought because they might have considered it.

I thought his ship had the assassin logo on a blag flag and that was where they got the name from…

I dunno, I’ve managed to do plenty stealth assassinations in the past. But yes, not quite perfect.

You have stealth in Assassins Creed games? When did this happen?

I really miss the investigations from the first Assassins Creed. Yeah it got boring after a while but it really felt like you were stalking your target. They should somehow incorporate it with the new gameplay style. Stealth is great but it is only one component in being an assassin. As it is now they tell you where your target is and then you go get him. There is rarely additional information like escape routes and gaurd information or where is the best place to perform an assassination.

All u people complaining about not having stealth in the previous games r obviously just running around like chickens without heads and attacking whatever u see. There were plenty of opportunities for stealth and plenty for aggression, perhaps u should look a little more carefully and stop critising the games for your preferred play style.

You could literally do all the ‘stealth’ stuff in the past games. The blowdart’s really just poison darts with longer range. You could probably even punch all those guys to death in the cave. Why go stealthily if it has no real benefit?
