The Xbox One hard drive is only 362Gb

Ever since we were told that you will be forced to install your entire Xbox One games onto the hard drive the discussion of how quickly this drive will full up has been raised. People have defended the Xbox One saying it will take a very long time to fill up 500Gb

However according to an IGN test done recently the drive doesn’t actually have 500Gb available HDD at all and the real space is quite a bit smaller at 362Gb.

So what did it take to complete fill up the Xbox One Hard drive?

  • 20 Games, ranging in size from 1.3Gb (Peggle 2) to 50Gb (COD: Ghosts)
  • 25 apps, most under 50Mb

That’s not a lot. Granted for the average gamer who grabs a new game a month the Xbox One should be fine for around 18 months which is long enough, but for the hard core gamers this is barely going to last 3 months before you need to start deleting installs.

And that’s before we get games like The Division which are surely going to hit close to 60Gb by itself and all the DLC packs that Ghosts and Battlefield 4 are going to get.

Microsoft has promised to allow external hard drives soon so start saving for that monster 3Tb USB 3 drive so that uninstalls aren’t things you need to worry about often.

With the price of the Xbone and it’s games I’m not sure even hardcore gamers will be able to fill that in 3 months. It’ll probably take 4 ~ 5 months, unless you’re from South Africa, then it’s probably not going to be a problem any time soon.

What people do not understand, the Xbox comes with kinect2 but the PS4 does not have the eye thingy which cost an extra R900

So the Xbox one is the same price as the PS4 or just like maybe R100 more expensive.

What other people do not understand is that some don’t want the kinect or eye toy. So the Xbox is more expensive because it adds something most don’t want.

Well, I think it is a better approach to force everyone to have Kinect from a business point of view. You know that everyone will have kinect.

Anyway, Kinect is very popular under the teens. Casual gamers enjoy kinect WAY WAY more than the hardcore gamers.

Go to Makro or Dionwired and just sit and watch howmany people play around with the kinect.

I can bet you, if you have a GF and she is not a hardcore gamer, she will enjoy kinect games more than your KICK YOU IN THE NUTS MOTHERFUKA games.

Thing is people like choice, Xbone doesn’t give gamers the choice, also Xbox is only coming next year, maybe and it’s all TV and TV apps and a ton of stuff that probably won’t work in SA, also the hard drive is tiny and the whole thing is made by microsoft, need I go on?

What people fail to understand is that Xbone is shit and PS4 is awesome.

Really it’s just logic, not sure why peeps struggle to understand obvious stuff.

Any HDD is not 100% the same size.

500GB should be around the 465GB true size space, it might also have some installed software on the Harddrive from the Xbox One.

Anyway, PS4 and XBOX One got TINY harddrives. You will fill it up so quickly if you install all your games. I do not see why you wouldnt do it anyway, the game loads faster than reading from the disc itself.

      December 10, 2013 at 09:32

Actually. A 500GB HDD is 500GB. The reason a HDD never actually shows that though is because of how HDD manufacturers and OS vendors prefix capacity. they use 1000KB for a meg and that is wrong since a MB is actually 1024KB. Thus you can work out true capacity quite easily. For reference 1TB is usually shown to be around 931GB. This however creates an issue among those who know this. Even though you actually get your full 1TB you also have to note that any software uses the same prefix. so a game that has an actual size of 1TB will show up on the OS as being 931GB in size.

tl;dr 465GB true size is inaccurate and I just thought I would correct it for you.

Personally having a 500gb hard drive would be fine for me, I have been very unprivileged to have had an old 20gb xbox 360 hdd since the start of getting one, using usbs to add storage for games. (I am sad I know) So for me, when done with a game simply uninstall and install the next one. having about 3 or 4 games installed at a time. no issues. Really to have all your games installed when you don’t play them all at once is a bit silly if you think about it..

Sigh, hard drive space. That is one way to feel old. I remember in primary school one of my friends got a Pacard Bell pc with those speakers mounted next to the screen. I think he showed off need for speed 2 when we went to check it out. It had an impressive 1.2gb hard drive which was way more than anyone had back then. Most interestingly, he had a massive porn magazine stash somewhere, or so I was told. Apparently their garden worker bought them for him.

    annyyway…

I plotted along with I think a 500mb for about two more years after that. I didn’t have enough space to install Half-life the first time and had to borrow another hard drive from a neighbour. Even worse, my best friend had an XT when we were laaitjies and he pretty much couldn’t keep a game like King’s Quest 1 installed. If we wanted to play it we first had to find all 7 floppies.

Think my first hd was 40mb. First time I played need for speed was on a
