Sony let the proverbial cat out of the bag last week when they announced the PlayStation 4 and gave it a late 2013 release date. We covered the announcement in quite a bit of detail but if you haven’t managed to keep track of it all then don’t worry as Sony has your back.

They’ve taken all the best bits from the presentation and created a montaged video for you to use to come up to speed.

We’re all pretty excited by the PlayStation 4 in the office but so much still rests on two key points, the first being the price that Sony attaches to it and the second being Microsoft.

I personally think Microsoft have been taken by surprise by just how good the PlayStation 4 is but I’ve been assured by insiders that the next Xbox will be just as good, if not better.

Only time will tell on that front though.

The leaked specs from the same sources that accurately predicted the PS4 specs shows that the XBOX could be 33% weaker in terms of computational power, but we all know this should not be used a a sole basis of comparrison… A HD6950 pushes 2.2TFLOPS and a 7850 1.7TFLOPS, yet a 7850 is much faster in every game… It’s about how the power is utilised, which is where the PS4 design shines, and the new XBOX should have the same advantage.

I believe the new XBOX will be very similar in design to the PS4. Unless Microsoft will waste money on some stupid gimmick(*cough* Illumniroom *cough*), the consoles should be priced fairly. So if the PS4 is really more powerfull, you’ll have to pay more, and that is fair imo. What will be an issue, is if they are very different in terms of power but cost the same, or the other way around.

I’m looking forward to see Microsoft’s console, and I hope it’s also awesome. 🙂

The thing is, MS have pretty much become leaders in the console race now. Pretty much everything Sony did was playing catchup with MS last gen (I’m talking features and gimmicks only, not games). The only think that Sony did that wasn’t pretty much a copy and paste of what MS had done, was the Move control. That was a copy and paste of Nintendo. The PS4 is coming with a “Kinect” standard now, so they’re finally catching up to that. Their biggest evelotuions on their console was software related, which MS could easily apply to their console. I wonder what MS have been working on since the Kinect though. When you’re not playing catchup, you tend to play leader. And MS must have one of the best, if not the best, research divisions in the world. I’m curious as to what they will do.

While I agree that Sony’s copying certain things from “kinect” and Move (nintendo) functions, It must be said that they listened to the gaming community by doing so. The xbox style triggers and so on, the easier to develop for hardware, It’s all steps in the right direction. Smack on the new features (Share button, download while play, etc) and you got quite a beast. They may be copying, but they’re doing it right. Think Android & iOS

The little bit if Move they slipped in at 0:27 looks absolutely ridiculous! Just throw it in the trash already!

the modelling wont be improved on that much, thats good enough atm, the focus on next gen is improved lighting and dynamic/live rendering or whatever, making the difference between detailed cutscenes and gameplay seemless.

surprised there havent been any articles on the games themselves yet, killzone 4 and infamous 3.
would have thought the action on the first next gen games would have been flowing thick and fast

we hope that playstation outs some time into being able to use two headsets at once while playing multi-player games online. Also only feeding the sounds of one persons in game to the headset if you are pkaying split screen and have one headset.
