The Internet, and by extension, the world, is a strange place filled with odd creatures known as human beings. Their actions make zero sense at least half of the time, which means zilch (0 x 1/2 = 0). You can’t fight with those numbers, my maths is sound!
You may recall the Neknomination, where people of the Internet downed a drink as fast as they could, nominating friends to do the same in the process. It was a strange time for humankind, but this strangeness is yet to fade from existence.
The latest trend is the ice bucket challenge. People fill a bucket of water with dozens of ice cubes, before dumping it on themselves. SCIENCE! We won’t look like utter fools to any extraterrestial observers at least, because this particular challenge is actually raising awareness and funds for ALS – Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as motor neurone disease. Gavin told you all about gamers getting involved, and he even took the challenge himself.
According to Kotaku, JJ Abrams, the director of the upcoming Star Wars movie, nominated the 501st Legion to take the challenge. They are a huge worldwide group of Star Wars cosplayers. They accepted. The resulting video is oddly hypnotic, as dozens of people dressed in Star Wars costumes get doused with icey water.
While the idea is silly, I do like that it is being used for good. What do you think? Silly Internet fad or something that is helping the world?

Who knows…Honestly. Some people hate it calling it a fad as more people are doing it for fun rather than for the charitable reasons, and rightfully so that they’re able to call it out. SOme are hating it because of the waste of water…
In all honesty. I’ve grown completely weary of everything on the internet these days. I’m more than tired of all the arguments happening. If some believe its for a good cause and do this for that reason, who are we to say anything about that?….Fact of the matter is. More people know about ALS now because of this

Good point, unfortunately weariness is the only way forward. While I do appreciate the awareness this kind of stunt brings, the amount of money sent to just one cause over this challenge would serve a lot better being shared by different groups.

Unlike Umar I think there is nothing wrong with this. People doing something silly for charity has been going on since Red Nose Day and before. If something good cokes out of it why should that be bad?

Just grinds my gears that ALL that money is only going to ONE cause.
I used to read books but now I have the internet, so I know everything. Your opinion is invalid.

Well if you think about it if they make advances in one field those are often applied to many others, so although it’s for one cause, the knock on effect can have a widespread benefit.

My bigotry has been adjusted and I agree with you.
With all the money being wasted on wars, weapons and skynets it’s a good thing when a huge chunk goes to something significant and worthwhile.
Had to squint like a mofo to see that silver lining but it’s better than whining 😉

Stupid is as stupid does. Making stupid bulletproof just complicates the issue.

Apparently the Reason they are using ice water is to simulate to people the Cold the people ( Joost van der Westhuizen & Stephen Hawking) with Lou Gehrig’s Desease (ALS) get when they loose muscle control.

I did not know that. I was always like you know you could give money without throwing water over your head but as it has meaning maybe a little silliness is in order.

As long as it actually gets people to donate to the actual cause. ALS is a truly terrible disease, one which I sadly have had personal experience with. It needs to be eradicated and if this helps even a little it is worth it.

Water being poured over the head represents a baptism.
ALS represents loss of control over the body.
The you need to give money.
I don’t know what the hell is going on with the ice bucket challenge but I don’t like what all is represented.
In the name of ALS, thou shall be baptised, cleansed of money, and 3 more shall be marked.
