Star Citizen’s 300 series spacecraft trailered

Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts’ next-generation PC-exclusive flight combat sandbox Star Citizen has generated a lot of user interest; interest that can be directly translated to money. So far, it’s amassed an incredible $10 million in crowd-funding. And here’s a look at it, via a faux advert for one of the game’s ship manufacturers.

Take a look at the ORIGIN Jumpworks 300 Series line of spacecraft – and gawk at the fact that the whole thing is rendered in-engine. that would be Crytek’s CryEngine 3, by the way. No word if it’s rendered in real-time though – but that would be pretty amazing.

Expect a lot more of this in the coming weeks. anyone else getting really, really excited about this?

This (the space-sim) is the only genre of game that I have actively missed since the decline of its heyday. It would be awesome to get behind a joystick and head off into the stars once more!

If I remember right, official release is only next year some time. In a few months they’re releasing a hanger module where you can mess around with your ship, then a few months after that a dog fighting beta.

I just remembered why moving away from PC was a hard decision. Got caught up in the console wars and forgot about this.

This what I call next-gen!!! This and Project Cars shows that gamers can fund developers directly without the need of middlemen. Or should that be meddle-men?

The minute I heard Origin my mind went to a dark dark place. Ship will crash shortly after takeoff cause of software malfunctions. 😛

There was a time that there was no better name in gaming than Origin owned by the creator of the Ultima universe Richard Garriot. I am sure Chris is having a poke at EA with this trailer as they took the Origin name and tried to copy steam and failed badly and now everyone hates the name.

Origin is also the creator of MMO’s as they released the first ever MMO called Ultima Online and thats where EA started raping them.

Needless to say EA killed it in the late 90’s when they decided Origin should be a online only MMO developer and in 2004 they closed the studio.

Yeah I also shudder at the name Peter Molyneux yet he brought me great joy years ago with Populous and Dungeon Keeper. Lord British made the Origin name great but unfortunately people usually only remember the bad. Hence when I heard Origin the only thing I could think of was the steam ripoff thats still after two years (I think) called a Beta.

Except that Freelancer was published by Microsoft and was developed by Digital Anvil and had nothing to do with EA whatsoever.

The final release is aimed for january 2015. But for all backers there will be several beta modules. Starting with the hangar module in August (GamesCom). After that there will be the dog-fight module and so on.
Better start backing this project before it is too late. 😉

Just shows you that you dont need 5000 people working on a game to produce a quality AAA title… all it takes is passion and a few skilled developers.

I can almost guarantee this is going to be up for game of the year 2014 if its released by then.
