Saints Row 4 arrives faster than a speeding bullet in August

THQ may be dead, but if there’s one property from the defunct publisher that is alive and well since that untimely demise, it’s Saints Row. We’ve already seen three games set in a universe of increasing lunacy and dildo-based weaponry. And thanks to Deep Silver purchasing that franchise, it looks like we’ll get to see the fourth game kick things up a notch in August.

August 20 is when Saints Row 4 arrives, and it looks like players will get to play around with super powers in this latest chapter of the psychotic purple series. According to the original press release from the expansion pack for the third game under THQ, which I’m only including because it set my Darryn-senses on fire:

“Faster than a speeding cyber jetbike, more powerful than a roided-out Luchadore, able to leap flying aircraft carriers in a single bound… That’s the power you’ll find inside the Dominatrix. Use it for good. Use it for evil. Use it for whatever you want. As always in Saints Row, it’s up to you,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Game Production, THQ Inc. “With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it’s incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most.” He later added, “Freaking super powers.”

This checks all those boxes. I’ve always loved the Saints Row games, much more than the recent Grand Theft Auto games of this generation. That crazy attitude, disregard for anything resembling normal and abundant levels of purple have made for some fun gameplay over the last couple of years.

And you haven’t experienced life until you’ve managed to kill a swarm of zombies with a gigantic dildo-bat that wiggles perhaps a tad too much. Saints Row 4 looks to be just as mental, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it in August.

The game that is. Not the Penetrator.

Did you also get it for practically free through the THQ humble bundle sale a while back? That was such a bargain, pity it couldn’t save THQ. 🙁

Funny thing that. I got the humble bundle especially for Metro 2013, but that game started gathering dust as soon as I loaded Saints Row the Third. I dunno if it is just me, but for some or other reason Metro makes me want to slit my wrists when I play it.

No. With all due love and respect Erwin, get SR3 ASAP. Believe me, In all my years of gaming (which was since I was a wee laddie standing on my dad’s safety boots trying to play Space Invaders when it was first released in SA) I have never played a game that was more fun that Saints Row the Third. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll hurl!

And if aliens attack and Jeff Goldblum cannot hack the alien mothership with a Pentium 2 laptop? And you get your PC blown to smithereens along the rest of humanity? You will be the sad little man bemoaning the fact that you never played Saints Row the Third.
Just out of curiosity, what will you be playing next?

Finished Portal 2 quite recently (BRILLIANT 9000)
Playing odd Dota 2 here and there, as well as Frontline Tactics (dammit, can’t stop with that).
Started Left4Dead2 Friday night and want to play and finish all there. Then its either Batman AC or Witcher 2

Loved Batman AC. Witcher 2 is gathering dust a bit. Pity that. On my poor PC it kinda looks like crap…

I haven’t played any of the Saints Row games. Should I just skip to 3 and 4?

You’ll miss out on some of the story, but the core gameplay is pretty similar between sequels. Things just get even crazier in the third game though.

The first Saints Row was really an attempt to re-create GTA San Andreas, and it was ok. But, the second Saints Row is generally considered to be the one to get. If I were you, give the second game a go*. The third Saints Row game is the wackiest. It’s so odd, it’s actually amazing.

Just be warned, if you’re a trophy nut, Saints Row 2 doesn’t have trophies for PS3 (the xbox version does)- if you don’t care about trophies, like Moi.. you’re in for a treat.

Uhmagawwd! Uhmagawwd! Uhmagawwd! Uhmagawwd! Uhmagawwd! UH MAH GAAWWD!!! I can’t wait. I literally can’t wait. I’ve said it before but Saints Row 3 was my game of the year for 2011. It was quirky, it was silly but oh.. man oh man.. was it fun. I love how Volition is no longer trying to be the next GTA, and instead are heading off in their own direction. That actually makes their game that much more awesome.

Saints Row 4? DAY ONE BABY!

As fun as these games are, I absolutely despise the vehicle mechanics in these games.

Looks like a big poke at Deus Ex and JC Denton in the screenshots btw

Meh, I don’t know. Looks fun, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve been more of a GTA fan. But with news that GTA 5 might not be coming to PC, they can suck it then.
