It’s N7 day, or November 7 to anyone who never got emotionally invested in Mass Effect. For a lot of you, it’s a day that brings up fond memories of cruising through the universe, fighting the Reapers and choosing your favourite colour of epilogue. For me, it’s one of the saddest days of my life, as it reminds me how I accidentally ended up murdering my favourite Mass Effect character, Tali Vas Normandy.
I don’t know why I love Tali so much. Maybe it’s that winning attitude. Maybe it’s that relentless optimism for a brighter tomorrow,skintight full-body leather, an alluring accent or sexy three-toed feet. Whatever it is, it was a combination that made me fall in love with a virtual character long before Joaquim Phoenix won awards for doing so in a movie.
And I kept her close by my side throughout the original Mass Effect trilogy. She was the light of my life, the one shining Paragon in my otherwise completely Renegade life. And dammit, I thought that I was making the right choice in Mass Effect 3. It was the only choice that I could make, because a fleet of hyper-evolved sentient AI that could adapt to any threat was pretty much a lot more effective than a ragged migrant nation that could barely keep their ships together.
How was I supposed to know that seeing her entire race being slaughtered would send Tali over the edge? I’m sorry Tali. I’m so, so sorry…

Yup. Like I just sacrificed an entire race of people, who’s only desire was to breath the homeworld’s air, and then they end up killing the reapers, the race of robots I just saved and myself.
Tip from an amateur author EA/Bioware: Dick moves like that in endings might make a few readers/partakers in your story want to face-punch you.

Agreed one of the many reseans my first ME3 playthrough was such traumatic experience, how where we suppose to know that everythingwas based around some complicated number system that goes far back as Legions ME2 mission with Geth heretics. Genius level game design though.
