I’m still not sold on Nvidia’s Shield

Nvidia’s making its mark on the console gaming space soon by releasing it portable gaming console, The Shield. It’s an Android powered handheld with some pretty beefy specs in its own right, but it’s standout feature is the ability to stream games from your PC to the handheld over a local WiFi connection.

Here, Nvidia tries to sell it by playing some Borderlands 2 off-screen. It all looks impressive, but the thing that gets me is that it’ll only work if you have a Nvidia GTX 650 minimum to pair along with it. So it’s basically a really, REALLY expensive Wii U?

Borderlands 2 or not, I remain unconvinced. I mean..it’ll be cool for bathroom breaks…but are you so tied to your PC that you can’t take a minute or 5 for the Call of Doody?

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
