Halo: The Master Chief Collection is restarting the fight

Despite being a sci-fi first-person shooter, Halo has a very polarising effect. Everyone either seems to love or hate the game that defined gaming on Xbox. Microsoft will probably never let go of their system selling franchise, and I’m 100% fine with that. I’m also entirely fine with playing through most of the Halo games again, especially after seeing this rather great launch trailer.

Halo 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all making their way to the Xbox One next week, full of enhancements, retakes and more makeovers than a reality TV nut could handle. You can see a lot of that in action in the game’s not so pre-mature launch trailer, which splices up some game footage with a host of drool-inducing cutscene flashes.

On top of the four Halo game that Master Chief starred in, The Master Chief Collection will also include the live-action series Halo: Nightfall, as well as access to the Halo 5: Guardians beta. That’s a whole lot of alien head popping bang for your buck, especially since the entire thing will retail for the regular price of a new release.

I’m mostly looking forward to playing Halo 2 for the first time, as it’s the only one in the entire franchise I haven’t touched. I’ve also been told it’s the best Halo game out there, which I’m finding hard to believe after playing Halo 4? What’s your favourite Halo game? And is it included in the Master Chief’s debut on the Xbox One?

Microsoft is hinting at more announcements for PC gaming so who knows?

Unlikely. Even Microsoft admits that was a huge F*** Up. They will most likely replace it with the Xbox Marketplace for Windows which should function like the Xbox.

The Xbox Live Marketplace is GFWL just with slightly different branding.

No one cares if one day you get it if ever released on PC, This is for XBOX ONE and we will all be getting it day one, 4 games, 32 campaign’s, over 100 multiplayer maps, the digital TV series and halo 5 beta included for the price of one game.
      OH YER.

Considering the PC community has kept the first game very well alive through online and mods, yeah, a lot of people care that Microsoft stops appealing to console retards like you and starts caring about the community that actually likes the franchise.

Halo 2 is most definitely NOT the best Halo game – in fact, in my humble opinion, its the worse. Maybe multiplayer was its defining thing, but not the campaign. It isn’t a bad game by any stretch.

Best of the 4 included – nostalgia always says the first – will NEVER forget the first time I saw Halo level (level 2). But 3 and 4 are pretty good.

For many, the best Halo game isn’t included – Reach. I think that would be my best Halo game. But hey maybe next year 🙂

If they added Reach as a DLC for 1/3rd of the price of The Master Chief Collection do you think it would be worth the money?

That is probably a bad question to ask me – I would pay just about anything for Reach in an upgraded form.

To try and be objective R200 for Reach in updated form would be worth it though. They now just need to HD remake that, Halo 3 ODST and make Halo 3 ODST 2…and I will be happy!

ODST as DLC pack one, Reach as DLC pack 2, both using the HD treatment… now shut up and take my money…

Of the numbered games, Halo 2 is top for me. I loved Halo 2 when it came out. My order is 2, then 4, then 1 and in distant last place 3. If you include the others, my order is Reach, 2, 4, 1, 3, ODST.

Yeah, I’m with you on that one – Reach was definitely my favourite Halo game of all time! Absolutely LOVE that game and would pay anything for an HD remake of it.

In terms of the numbers, I would say 1 probably takes it for me (purely on nostalgia factor alone). Followed closely by 4. But that’s why I wanna play 2 again – I played it so long ago (and of all the Halos, it’s the only title I’ve actually only finished once), I honestly don’t remember much. So can’t judge it properly within the Halo game-iverse.

A free tv-series with 4 games for $60? Let’s all moan about the Xbox doing TV series until the reviews are out.

Yeah I have no idea how their internal workings now work re: TV series, etc as that has been scrapped. I assume this was “outside” of that?

Yes but they could have already completed this and the ET Atari documentary before closing shop.

I am interested in these reviews. How do you review games that were critically acclaimed and somehow “mark them down.” For many reviewers they have already played the games – nostalgia is hard to overcome.

And to review it purely technically isn’t overly right but surely that is all the reviews can be.

Going to be interesting to see.

That is one awesome value proposition if you’ve missed any of the titles in the past but can you imagine how mindblowing this will be for new Xboners? Just wow! I think M$ are going to hit a home run with this release.

That would only hurt sales, unless they emphasized it was 4 games rather than half a game on one disc …

I am seriously looking forward to this! I’ve always loved the Halo series – can’t wait to be able to play all 4, especially 2, which I last played many, MANY moons ago, again (and with shinier coats of paint compared to when I last saw them). Hell yeah!
