Far Cry is a massive franchise for Ubisoft. The third entry into the series ranks as one of my favorite shooters of all time, so you can imagine that I have high expectations for this year’s sequel. But it’s a little less about the guns this time, and more about the savage wildlife I’ll be using as my live weapons next month. That’s what has me grinning from ear to ear.
And it’s not only me, apparently. I got the chance to sit down with Ryan Boyer, Production Manger on Far Cry 4, to talk about some of the improvements wildlife had received in Far Cry 4. Animals in Far cry 3 were already fantastic, but their placement often felt far too convenient. Ubisoft recognized this and made a few changes, transforming Far Cry 4’s Kyrat into a far more organic wildlife habitat.
I had a bit of a laugh at the honey badgers part – I really can’t visualize them as useful unless I’m physically throwing them onto people’s faces. We also touched on some of the game’s co-operative features, as well as some of the tools available to you in order to zip around Kyrat with the speed and grace of a mountain lion.
But what about the man in the pink suit? Ubisoft set themselves an extremely high bar with Vaas in Far Cry 3, but they’re confident that Pagan Min will not only be better, but also a little bit different. Unfortunately he won’t be sporting a fancy golden gun, which would work so well with his striking attire.
Far Cry 4 launches on November 18th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. Again, no love for Nintendo.
