Crytek jumping on the MOBA bandwagon?

Bandwagon

MOBAs are big business. League of Legends is one of the most played games on the planet, and the Dota 2 prize pool is hitting astronomical sums. everybody seems to be making a MOBA. Dead Island’s becoming one, and Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm is probably the most anticipated new arena strategy game. Now it looks like Crytek wants in on that action.

Here’s a peak at Crytek’s Arena of Fate, which has received a brief teaser after months of speculation. It shows little other than two characters about to lock in to battle. Perhaps Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf and  invites players to ‘enter the arena’ in summer 2014.

According to gaming supersleuth Superannuation, Crytek’s Bulgarian Black Sea studios was working on a project that would likely end up being an MMO, RPG or MOBA – and this little clip rather heavily suggests the MOBA route.

This would likely be Crytek’s second foray in to the free-to-play realm following its shooter, Warface. the company’s previously said that all of its future games would be free-to-play, as the standard AAA market was unsustainable.

Right now we are in the transitional phase of our company, transitioning from packaged goods games into an entirely free-to-play experience.

What this entails is that our future, all the new games that we’re working on, as well new projects, new platforms and technologies, are designed around free-to-play and online, with the highest quality development.

So a MOBA with classic fantasy and fairy tail characters. Thrilling. Honestly, there’s more than enough saturation in the MOBA market, and I’m not sure anything’s going to usurp the big established guys now. The only one that even has a real shot is Blizzards, because well, because it’s Blizzard.

its gana look great i am sure , but its gana lack something , like soul or characters

on a side note i think i would play more dota 2 if they had a sick visual upgrade package , seems pointless playing a game that can run on almost anything , i wana be rewarded for my over priced GPU and CPU consumer choices

Play Planetside 2 then, those big battles can strain your rig 😉

Tell me about it. Round about 100 players, then I can see some strain, crank that up to 200 or 300 players per that map segment and I rather go look for another section of the map to fight on.

Do you play? If so, which server and faction?

Looking at my work laptop specs I might be able to run it and stream it over to my PC.
I’m a bit worried about the graphics card though.

Look, if you stay away from the larger battles, you should be fine.

Engagements are listed in each map segment by the army population (Allies and Enemies), and grouped into 1-12, 12-24, 24-48 and 48+ for each of the two (Allies and Enemies).

This way you can pick your battles accordingly. In the mood for some uber army action? Go big. In the mood for some sniping? Sit on the outskirts or run with a mate in a less populated area.

Or form a mini squad and take over the smaller 1-12 occupied posts and defend the snot out of it (kinda fun that!)

Or even roll with some mates in a bomber or in some fighters in the air!

SO many possibilities, and oh, the game is free 🙂

I really love the look dota 2 has. Art Direction matters more to me personally than photo realistic graphics.

Hell The Witness looks like one of the prettiest games on the PS4…

Lolwat.. Dota 2 already has the best graphics of any DotA-style/MOBA game on the market. Who the hell plays games for the graphics anyway? Weirdo.

Well the graphics look like they come from 2007

Don’t get me wrong I dig jaming with my mates against bots , but as soon as it’s PvP it’s too hectic

Oh as a consumer I may chose what I wish to play and spend my time on

Typical dota 2 response get all defensive an forget that other games do exist
