Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry. That’s a line that is often uttered by the Hulk, usually before he transforms into a green-skinned steroid rage monster and smashes stuff up like a boet in a shop that has run out of Tapout T-shirts the day before an EFC Africa pay-per-view. But he’s not the only Hulk around. Say hello, to the Red Hulk.
So here’s a new video feature that I’m trying out on the site. Everyone here knows how much I love comic books, but the origin for this idea came back at E3. After the event had wrapped, Zoe and I decided to hit Venice Beach, along with the cool dudes from Megarom and Microsoft. While there, I found myself in a toy shop, and I decided to treat myself.
So I bought myself a kickass Red Hulk action figure. While sitting in a bar and waiting for some El Diablo hotwings, I was naturally admiring the figure, before I was asked who the Red Hulk actually was. And that’s when the idea for this video series hit me. Quick, comic book primers for folks who have no idea who these characters are.
I perhaps have way, way too much comic book knowledge, and I love talking about the medium. I don’t have much time during the day to craft these videos, but as usual, I hope that by doing them regularly they will improve over time. So the first one is above you as you can see, where I go full circle and give a talk on the rampagin’ Red Hulk.
If there’s any specific character that you’d like to see, lemme know! I’m more than happy to cater to your whims!

I really like this, but is it just me or is Darryin’s voice a bit low throughout? I had to turn my speakers all the way up to even hear him

Cool! I always thought it was some weird thing that happened to the green Hulk that turned him red. Now… what’s the deal with the grey one?

That’s actually the original form of the Hulk, before Marvel switched him to a green colour scheme to make him stick out more.
He resurfaced a couple of years later, appearing at night and working as a Las Vegas mob enforcer by the name of Mr Fixit. Those were weird years for the Hulk.

According to Stan Lee, the printers of that time had trouble with the grey colours needed for the original Grey Hulk, so Stan had to pick another colour for the beast. The printers didn’t have any problems with green, so that is what stuck 🙂

Just as well, I’d probably have confused him with Solomon Grundy.

I actually dig him way more than regular Spider-Man. Consider it done for the future.

Good video, but next time please speak a little louder.
I think I missed about a third of what you said and then when the LG logo appeared I was worried my ears were going to start bleeding.

Have you read Invincible? Its a brilliant comic from Robert Kirkman, pretty much turns the whole superhero convention on its head…:-)

Im assuming Variant Comics is on your youtube subscription list?
red hulk is someone the marvel movies needs to pick up on again if they want to go with the Thanos and Infinity gems route for the third avengers movie, which theyv been hinting at with Thanos at the end of Avengers and The infinity gems with the collector at the end of thor 2
Marvel Civil War would be an awesome series to pick up on, really massive story that covers everyone

Due to all the studios involved, I doubt Civil War could ever happen. But I Agree, General Ross comnig back, Hulking out, Punching Thanos… Sounds great.

Oh, I meant Civil war for Darryns articles.
A civil war movie would either be beyond godlike, or just kill my love for the franchise entirely.
I do think its a topic that needs to be picked up on in the movies.
results in pretty big attitude and relationship changes that would affect the movies.
might make for an amazing third Captain America movie, they could downscale the appearing characters and make it mostly about Cap vs iron man.

I like it. I plan to make the videos more than just character profiles, so expect to see a few storylines mentioned in the future as well.

my biggest thing with comics, is that i just want to know what to read next.
theres just too much content and i hate reading the comics with those old drawings.
Civil War had me by the balls, was 2gud.
Planet Hulk was great, untill it took too long and too little happened and the heroes were getting more and more obscure and i got bored.
now im all like “what next?”
DC is a little easier though, just pick something with batman on the cover, sit back and enjoy.
but they cant touch Marvels global events.

Red Hulk? Far too easy. I think you need a few proper challenges: Squirrel-Girl! Stilt-Man! Speedball! The Orb! Snapper Carr! Ma Hunkel!
