Choose your own adventure

I’m really amped for Civilization: Beyond Earth. The bit that I was allowed to tell you about the game was awesome, and I can’t wait to share more about it. Firaxis shared more information about the start of the game in this live stream.

First, let me start by saying that Pete Murray is lot more dynamic in person. Somehow, this video seems to have consumed his soul. I’m assuming the same happened to David McDonough – they both look horribly scared and bored at the same time in this video.

The seeded start is a really cool new feature. I just like that it completely changes your experience of the game. In historical Civ games, your starting point and culture determined your success to a large extent. However, this one also includes your ability to expand your civilization, your productivity or military might. The seeded start lets players choose their priorities early on in the game, adding decision-making and consequences from the start. Do you choose to have a better sense of the layout of the world, or how about a worker or stronger military? It all depends on your priorities and I like the direction of the game in this regard.

What excites you the most about Civilization: Beyond Earth? Is it the factions and affinities? How about the new tech web or victory conditions? I am amped for the whole thing. Considering how addicted I was (and maybe still am) to Civ V, I think that BE will be even more consuming for me.

Oh and of course being unable to take your turn for any reason (sleeping) counts as a surrender. >: )

Of course. Just tell us when you’re doing that so we don’t launch a surprise attack.

I’ll be sure to do it during my turn then, so there can be no surprises.

I’m looking forward to starting fresh on a new planet & contributing towards a peaceful, utopian society far removed from the horrors of the old homeworld… and then watching it all burn. War, war never changes.

I always thought of you more as the kind of player who would start a religion and then convert everyone to it. 😉

I did that once, at an AD&D role playing competition. Went so far off script that I got the people to dual worship, new and old. Was awesome and even better was the guy who wrote the module watched what we did and loved every minute of us abusing his creation.

Each morning a missionary advertise with neon sign
He tells the native population that civilization is fine
And three educated savages holler from a bongo tree
That civilization is a thing for me to see

While we on the civilization theme

Do I want this, Shadows of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition?

All of the above. Which one will, in two years time, more than likely have the most hours? If based on Civ V, easily Beyond Earth. Value for money, these games.
