Assassin’s Creed Unity lets you customize gameplay style

ACU custom

Assassin’s Creed, for all its fun, has typically been the same experience for everyone. With standard progression trees and equipment, customization was limited, making everyone play the same way through each mission. Assassin’s Creed Unity changes that, letting players get sneaky or tanky according to their preferred play style.

Here is the latest trailer for Assassin’s Creed, showing off the customization and co-op some more:

So, if you want to be stealthier you can use a more inconspicuous hood and level up your eagle vision skills and parkour. Otherwise, go in like a tank with heavier armor and weapons to kill all the things without needing to hide in the shadows. I like that players can customize their look and feel of the character – it’s not just about aesthetics, but it actually impacts how you play the game.

Meanwhile, that customization carries through into co-op. Go in with your tanked out friend to kill a large group of guards, or perhaps have a team full of stealthy ninjas to run across the rooftops and kill from above. Either way, you can cooperate with other people and still use your unique approach to the game. Of course, you might think this could lead to some difficulties if everyone has gone for a tank approach on a mission that requires a bit more subtlety. However, as explained in the video, each mission is open ended – if you want to kill all the enemies in open combat, it seems that you can still succeed in the mission.

Finally, I just have to blow our own horn – at the end of the trailer, you can clearly see our E3 award. It’s moments like these that make me so glad I flew for all those hours to be there.

I would start off being stealthy, and would end up doing this.

I’ve found using items (besides blow-darts) quite effective.

            1. Get spotted running up non-contextual wall.
            2. Throw smoke bomb.
            3. Stab stab stab.
            4. Rinse, repeat.

Using smoke before sabotaging alarm bells works well too.

Really looking forward to the customization in Unity, as well as the apparent improvements to movement.. My biggest gripe with previous titles? Despite being obsessed with them? The highly-restricted mission parameters and griddy (made-up word) ‘so-called’ “open-world free-running”.

If they made this game into an RPG with every item having an affect then I would just lose my life here!

Focus more on the amount of items and their stats! o/

You know I want them to add a ship, a stagecoach and multiple businesses you can buy… Also like I said a shitload of items.

This could keep my busy for years, but then again they will just DLC the shit out of it 🙁

Meh. Barbie dress-up isn’t much fun when you only get to play with Ken.
