A rather lengthy look at Fuse

When Insomniac Games – the long-time PlayStation-shackled developers of Resistance and Ratchett & Clank  – showed off Overstrike at E3 last year, I was more than intrigued. It looked pretty damned awesome – like a more action-oriented focused, squad based take on Borderlands.

When news came that the game had gone the opposite route to Borderlands, eschewing its stylised aesthetic for something a little more realistic, I completely lost interest – and it seems, most everyone did.

Insomniac’s here with a new extended look at the game that they;re hoping reinvigorates that interest. Its a lengthy look at the characters and weapons you’ll encounter; an "unlikely team of mercenaries called into action by the US government" and some rather nifty ways of death dealing.

Insomniac knows a thing or two about weapon agency, so I have no doubt the weapons and tech in Fuse will be a ton of fun to use – but its new “realistic” art style is so damned generic, it’s turned me right off. Hell, even the guy narrating this video sounds bored.

Have a look – and let us know what YOU think.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces. I am also the emperor of the backend
