The Division

Guns! I want them, and you’ve probably got a few of them lying around. Nope, that’s not a line that I uttered from the last time I visited relatives in the US of A, but rather my urge for the best digital death-dealers in Ubisoft’s upcoming game The Division. Look, we’re all going to start off with a pea-shooter that will make the angriest of New Yorkers laugh at your headshots in the dark zones of The Division.

It’s the joy of upgrading, finding better math-blasters and unleashing all manner of RPG hell through bullets that’ll be the charm. And maybe, maybe if you’re a good person, you’d even trade a few of your spare guns away on the ruined roads of Wall Street. Such a feature would do well in The Division, am I right? Here’s the thing though: That’s not happening. At least, not at launch.

“It’s the reality of production. Some features make it, some features don’t,” associate creative director Julian Gerighty explained to GamesRadar, adding that the decision to ditch trading came from a “priority of different features.”

It’s something that obviously some people are very passionate about,” he said. “It’ll maybe make an appearance in the future.

Throwing out a few items from your inventory to your pals isn’t exactly a new idea, but it’s one that doesn’t seem to be at the top of any development list right now. Take Destiny for example, a game with such a tightly-controlled flow of guns and armour, that it could have taught the DEA a lesson or two during the height of the drug war with the Colombian cartels. Yes, I’ve been watching Narcos, this is now my thing.

Still, if The Division wants to really separate itself from all the Destiny comparisons as of late, chucking in a decent trading system could be the ticket. Of course, seeing how the current in-game economy works and justifying that against a prolific arms deal, is the real challenge here. The Division finally ships out on March 8 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. You can hop into a closed beta if you’re lucky, from January 28.

  1. I’m growing more and more skeptical of this game

Like I have told so many other games who are so excited to play this game.

Do not pre-order this and do not play it in the first month or two.

It happened before, I was excited about a Ubisoft game and it was so buggy it made me stop playing it. Months later it was fixed but the damage was done, completely lost interest.

I played the alpha and it was solid. Was also quite a lot of fun. Obviously don’t have a clue about overall story and end game, but what I played was fun.

But yar, I don’t think this one will be a buggy mess, based on how amazingly solid the alpha was.

No, that’s not the point they’re making… the point is you HAVE to kill your friends to get that loot from the dark zones.

I was looking forward to killing Rincey, teabagging him and then stealing his gear. Now all I have is disappointment! 🙁

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Look at you, calling Rince a friend!

What I’d do is think of it like beating a pinata. Sure it’s disappointing when you don’t get anything good out of beating the rotten thing to bits, but most of the fun comes from doing just that!

Don’t lie you have never tasted tofu 😛

No trading system it would have been nice, but no deal breaker for me, still getting the game.

Trading in games like these are essential, if I start to see a teammate get tunnel vision for loot grabbing and I know he can’t trade, I am going to make him eat lead all the way to the dropped loot.

That’s why you check what the loot is, and make sure every one of your friends gets kitted at a good pace.

    BAh no realism.

If this was truly Tom Clancy inspired they would allow the trade of bullets for sexual favours in post apocalyptic truck stop cubicles.

The main problem i have with not trading vs free trading is that it imbalances a game. a Lv1 grunt running around with a BFG is very OP when you are the same lv1 grunt and you have 6 shooter out of the previous century.

It’s the concept of it. Having a buddy get you a better gun right form the start gives one an unfair advantage. Bearing in mind level restrictions.

The possibility of exploits is far greater with trading.

I can totally understand why they would do this. You get lunatics like Hammer who spend 22 hours a day playing, can you imagine him giving all the awesome loot to his team and the ‘normal’ players having to go up against him? trololo
