Darth Maul is getting the Play Arts Kai treatment

Darth Maul (3)

Favourite Sith Lord? Easily Darth Maul. Let’s face it, in a film that’ll best be remembered as the Star Wars flick where Darkman was this close to murdering an actual CGI character while Renton from Trainspotting watched on, Darth Maul was easily the highlight. A whirling engine of hate, horns and tattoos, the moment you saw Maul getting ready to take on both Jedi at the same time was the moment that you’d sat through that damn Gungan attack scene. Darth Maul may be half the Sith Lord he used to be, but his upcoming collectible action figure is looking mighty fine.

Joining other Play Arts Kai Star Wars figures, this redesign of Darth Maul ain’t too bad. He’s still got his trademark double lightsaber, horns and manic grin, and the extras aren’t too ostentatious. Me likey. Here’s a gallery of him in action:

The figure will also include multiple interchangeable hands, a split version of the lightsaber, blade attachments and a figure stand. It’ll retail for around 13,000 Yen (about $106 USD) in August. If you ever wondered what happened to Darth Maul after The Phantom Menace, then good news! He got better! Sort of. Back in the Clone Wars series, it was revealed that Maul had survived being cut in half (Unlike Dewey Cox’s brother), went insane and managed to get himself to an isolated junk planet. Where he rebuilt his lower torso from various spare parts and essentially became a half-Sith half-cyborg spider who ran around like a looney.

But he got better! Again! Eventually reunited with his brother Savage Opress, the two waged war on the Jedi, until Darth Sidious decided that Maul was drawing too much attention to his grand plans.

Ah, good times man, good times. Extra bonus fact: Darth Maul is voiced by The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller, Sam Witwer. The more you know!

  1. But will his torso have a split version like his Lightsaber?

I know you’re joking, but it would’ve been cool if it did. Then they could include the robotic legs he later had.

This guy is such a great villain.

He was. For like 5 seconds. After he murdered Liam Neeson. Then he got sliced in half by Ewan McGregor… All villain cred lost.

Luckily we have the comics where there’s lots more to see about him. His role in episode one as a bit short-lived.

Savage Opress is such a terrible name. First time I heard it I thought I heard wrong, but then I remembered I was watching Star Wars.
