The games that resonate most with me are the ones that are character driven; the ones with incredible protagonist, bad guys or NPCs that seemingly human. Unfortunately, one of humanity’s traits is that many of us are unbearably annoying – something that spills over in to videogames too.
Some characters just get right up your nostrils and make you want to punch the screen. going back to yesterday’s final Fantasy rant, there’s of course the face-palmingly grating Vanille from Final Fantasy XIII, whose screechy quasi-Australian voice made me want to climb walls. Of course, she’s not the only annoying character in a game (though she may well be the single most annoying, worst one).
Niko Bellic’s oafish cousin very nearly made me put my face through a window. No, you idiot, I DO NOT WANT TO GO BOWLING. Every single one of the characters added to Sonic’s universe after the first games are enough to make you throw up in to your shoes. Big The Cat? BIG THE DAMNED CAT?
Navi (Hey! OVER HERE!) And Tingle (“Tingle, Tingle, Kooloo-Limpah!”) both very nearly made me hate the entire Legend of Zelda series. Otis, from Dead Rising could get you to swear at a nun. “Don’t hang up on me! It’s rude!” I’m sorry, dude, but a GODDAMNED ZOMBIE JUST TRIED TO EAT MY FACE OFF.
Then there’s every single escort character in every single game with escort characters. Yes, I’m thinking of you right now, Ashley Graham and of course, that smirking bastard of a dog from Duck Hunt.

Oh I remember. There was an NPC in Supreme Commander 2 that made me rage-quit the game & never go back. It was one of the first campaign levels. After you complete the level this nitwit pops up a chat window to give this taunting little message. It was terribly written, poorly voice-acted & when he signed off he said, wait for it, “toodles!” TOODLES. WTFFFFFFFF. RAAAAAAAAGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE. BBBVVVVVVMMMMMM.
