We all know the Unreal Engines capabilities from games like Gears of War, Unreal Tournament and others but maybe you don’t know about the new engine being developed that will power the games of tomorrow. The engine is developed by Epic Games and is widely regarded as the ... [»]

Ubisoft Reckons the 3DS is “Powerful,” has Unreal Engine running

 - March 24th, 2011
Epic Games has all sorts of praise for Sony’s PSP successor, currently called the NGP. They’ve chosen that as their handheld of choice, eschewing Nintendo’s 3DS because of its relative lack of graphical muscle, and its inability to run their Unreal engine. It seems they might’ve gotten ahead of themselves, because Ubisoft’s managed to get UE running ... [»]

 - March 15th, 2010
If you thought Gears 2 was the best we were going to see from the Unreal Engine in this generation then you have another thing coming. Check out the video after the break which was shown at GDC this year… I don’t personally believe the actual game will look this good ... [»]

Quantum Theory – Gears of Fantasy?

 - January 18th, 2010
The similarity between Quantum Theory’s gameplay and Gears of War is incredible, so similar in fact that the first thing that went through my mind is that Epic were going to sue these guys for copyright infringement. However that is before I remembered that they are using Epic’s breadwinner, The Unreal ... [»]

Shadow Complex Cheaters Targeted

 - September 16th, 2009
Shadow Complex, the Metroid-inspired 2.5D action adventure is a great game. The exploration-heavy Unreal Engine powered downloadable game has been one of my favourites this year. Pity that the leaderboards are filled with cheaters who’ve figured out a way to exploit the game’s code to their own nefarious cheating ways. Developers Chair ... [»]

Unreal Engine 2009 Features

 - March 26th, 2009
We saw some screenshots earlier of the new CryEngine’s output but that wasn’t the only engine unveiled at GDC this year. Epic have shown off their latest version of the famous Unreal Engine and while I don’t get most of it, it does make the development of awesome 3D games look pretty easy. I really wish I could do this sort of development for a living, it must be an awesome experience to play a game that you made. Getting There

Gears of War vs Gears of War 2 – Graphic Comparison

 - November 6th, 2008
Whilst browsing around the gametrailers.com website, I happened to find a neat little video in the user uploads section of a graphics comparison between Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2.While it is initially difficult to see the major differences between the two games, you will find that a short while later it becomes heavily apparent that the upgrade to the Unreal 3 engine has really spruced the games visuals quite nicely. The original Gears of War already had some very impressive graphics to start with, so the fact the Epic ...
