If you’re one of the many who get a kick from monthly hardware and software figures, I’m afraid you’ll not be getting your NPD kicks for a while. The chart-tracking company has delayed the most recent results for a period of “up to three ... [»]
Last year saw the gaming industry hit hard by the *ack* global economic downturn, with many people losing their jobs and numerous studios closing their doors, no longer able to turn a profit. M2 Research added up the casualties, and nearly 11,500 people in the video game industry lost their jobs since late 2008. “The final count for layoffs since the economic meltdown in late 2008 reached 11,488 worldwide, with the majority of the losses ... It seems mergers and acquisitions are the order of the day. Following on the heels of news that Id Software has been eaten by Zenimax, EA have conglomerated their two venerable RPG studios – Bioware and Mythic –in to one colossal RPG/MMO development powerhouse. Bioware, of course, are famous for crafting some of the most engaging and memorable western RPG’s – Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. Mythic on the other hand (no Darren’s here) are best known for their MuhMORPuhGahs Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Bioware’s operations will remain unchanged, but Mythic’s former boss Mark Jacobs has been sent packing. Mythic staff will now report directly to Bioware boss Ray Muzyka, presumably whilst he strokes the fluffy white cat on his lap and ... [»]

Sony, the entire company not just Sony Computer Entertainment, are expected to post a massive $1.1 billion loss.Gamesindustry.biz (via 1UP) reports that Sony initially expected a $2.2 billion profit, but due to the economic downtown and weakening Dollar versus the Yen, they are now struggling. I fail to see how a $3 billion difference was generated by a weakened currency and economy, but I didn't study business science. So alot of hopes are pinned on the ... [»]
