Point and Laugh : Mad Catz Paid Money Not To make Guitar Hero

 - January 11th, 2010
When Guitar Hero launched, it did so exclusively on the PS2. This wasn’t because of any exclusivity agreements because Sony saw the franchise as a portent of the onset of the rhythm gaming craze. No. Apparently Mad Catz had been commissioned to make the Xbox version, but as a result of the pending law suit between Harmonix and Konami (who made the earlier GuitarFreaks)  they tried to back ...  - November 19th, 2009
As residents of the southernmost tip of Africa, we thought we got shafted when it came to console hardware and game pricing and availability. Spare a thought then for our Brazilian brothers and sisters, who not only pay MUCH more than we do for games, they also get the hardware much, much later. How much later, exactly? Well, the South American country today sees the launch of Sony’s Playstation 2. Yes, you read that right. 2.  The nine-year old console is finally available, at the low low price of 799 Brazilian Reais, the equivalent of $465 US or 3 474 ZAR. Needless ... [»]

The Playstation 2 turns 9

 - October 29th, 2009
Yesterday saw the birthday of two iconic media giants. The first is Noddy, Enid Blyton’s little wooden man of dubious sexual orientation. Also celebrating its birthday yesterday was Sony’s Playstation 2, one of the most successful gaming consoles in the history of the universe. Some of my very favourite gaming moments happened on that machine, home to some of the best games ever made; Games like God of War, Okami, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and Silent Hill 2. It’s a console that, despite its age, is still wildly popular today. Tell us some of your most treasured Playstation 2 moments in the comments – or if you’re so inclined, your favourite Noddy ones.

 - September 23rd, 2009
Woops! Somebody screwed up, and they screwed up BIG TIME. If a planning document that showed up on SEGA’s PR site holds any truth – and indications are that it does – then SEGA have just inadvertently let the PS3 backwards compatibility cat out of the bag. Well because it was incredibly boring and unimportant really. The big announcement was that the PS2’s price in America has been cut to $99, granted that’s better than an announcement about Pac-Man but really not very exciting in the bigger scheme of things. However Sony didn’t seem to fully understand the true ...
