Just what the doctor ordered if you were diagnosed with severe irritation at teammates who aren't pulling their weight in your road to glory.
Call of Duty is dipping into battle royale once again with Warzone, and it’ll be launching today! It’ll be a mere 20 gigglebytes in size when the download is made available from 11AM ET time in the US, which works out to 5PM locally here. Which is way past my bedtime so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to play it. Damn it mom, let me be cool like the other kids and give me an 8PM curfew.
The Battle Royal genre ain’t dead yet! Still as lucrative as ever and home to some big players, Call of Duty Black Ops IIII took a stab at the theme a while back and found great success with Blackout. While Blackout was fun, it did also feel like a game that had numerous ideas stitched together instead of organically giving players the smoothest possible Call of Duty last man standing experience. Call of Duty: Warzone aims to change that, with a mode that is fast, furious and features some novel ideas to keep players constantly on their toes.
Battle royale my dudes, battle royale. That was the scoop that made headlines a few weeks back, as Call of Duty’s new Warzone mode was rumoured to be a free to play add-on for the game that will also be up for download outside of the main game. It was good news for anyone who enjoyed Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s take on the genre in the form of Blackout, but news that Activision was none too happy about.
At this point, it’s almost certain that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will soon have a Battle Royale mode tacked onto it. It will, however, also be available as a free download in the Fortnite vein, with Activision hoping to monetise it through Battle Passes and the like. According to the chaps at Video Games Chronicles (headed by former staff from the respected and reputable CVG), citing their own inside sources, the mode is “at least a few weeks away” and scheduled for release in early March.
If you play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, then you’ll already know that the game’s patches have become unbearable. They’re annoying enough for those on uncapped fibre, but for people with any sort of limited connection, they must be despised. That’s because they’re not just frequent, but often clock in at dozens of Gigabytes. The latest one clocked in PlayStation 4 was 51 GB and a frankly ludicrous 68 GB on PC and Xbox One. That’s fine and well, but there was a 50Gb patch just a few weeks ago.
While Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the first game in the franchise to dip its toes into those ever popular last man standing waters, it looks like Modern Warfare has its own take on the genre and it might be coming real soon. Season 2 of the game has kicked off, and with it a new cinematic that looks a little like an advert for last man standing action.
