Ladies and gentlemen, it is almost time to crown a champ. The Lazygamer Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare tournament has seen dozens of teams whittled down in the last couple of weeks. Tonight, it’s the formidable young guns from Exile, taking on the mighty giant-killers of Insane. One shall stand! One shall fall! Catch it tonight, right here!
As a country, there aren’t many sports that have a dominating South African presence. Our best minibus taxis were kicked out of Formula 1 for aggressive overtaking manoeuvres and charging Jensen Button a ridiculously low fare to get back to the pits after he spun out at one race, while our Olympic teams are usually crushed underneath the weight of the small army that the USA brings to that event. One sport where we do have an ass-kicking team however? Cricket. And it’s time to play ball.
Far Cry 4 is finally here! Geoff gave it a good playing and rather enjoyed it. While he was slaving away over his review, Zoe and I headed out to the launch event which took place at the awesome Vikrams in Lonehill Shopping Centre. What resulted was an evening of shooting, eating, and spontaneous wig wearing.
Last night was Megarom's launch event for Assassin's Creed Unity... and Rogue. Yes, Rogue is the tag -long brother nobody likes who grows up to be really hot and sleeps with his brother's girlfriend. Wait, what? Forget that, we went to a nice French venue, drank a bunch and talked about games with people we like.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare finally landed yesterday and quickly established itself as one of the best entries the franchise has ever had. That’s mostly due to the game’s new Exo abilities, which transform the landscape of the eSports focused multiplayer mode. It’s going to be interesting to see how professional players adapt to it over time. We, however, didn’t have that much practice at last night’s Media Invitational tournament, but we still walked away victorious!
We’re live on the ground, ducking fire from civilians, embedding ourselves into rAge in much the same way that a tick embeds itself into a dog. We’re doing interviews, getting the scoop from various developers and wondering what this “vacation” word is that people throw around so casually. We’re also taking photos. Lots and lots of photos!
rAge seems to go in waves - some years it is absolutely excellent and other years I can get through the whole expo in a couple hours. This year, there are a ton of awesome games playable on the various stands, and you won't want to miss them.
I’m currently too broke to afford a copy of Watch Dogs, but that’s what happens when you have a crippling Batman addiction. And while my attempts to hack into the banks using a state of the art 386 PC have failed spectacularly, there are easier and less risky ways out there to help me get what I want.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is almost upon us. But, contrary to Darryn's insistence, playing with others can be way more fun than playing with yourself. Megarom is teaming up with Internet Solutions to let a bunch of locals get together for some dungeon raiding.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is out, and maybe in the next gen or end of year game rush you’ve been umming and erring about whether to plonk down the cash. Thanks to our friends at Activision and Megarom, we’re giving you the opportunity to experience that realistic fish AI, establish an emotional connection with a virtual dog, fire guns in space and get sworn at online by 12 year olds. Oh, and listen to a whole lot of some angry white dude. For free!
Ah, it seems like just yesterday that COD: Ghosts was announced, and now its launch is upon us. Megarom has put together an awesome competition for you, and there is even going to be a launch party.
Steel Series has shown its commitment to South African eSports for a while now, particularly by sponsoring our local teams. Now, they've upped the game!
There are some rather disquieting rumours that Grand Theft auto V will be delayed locally – particularly for those who’ve ordered a copy through some of our Cape-town based retailers. We’ve been trying to contact just about everybody involved. Here’s the deal.
