Prey 2 is in Limbo

Around this time, we should have been wearing a stetson and blasting outer space aliens in Prey 2, but the game has had one hell of a rocky development cycle. Bethesda delayed the game a while back, and since then, we’ve heard pretty much about a zero-G’s worth of news. Has Prey been cancelled? Not according to developer Human Head. In fact, it’s taking part in some tropical fun (Citation needed).

Sony failed to push Limbo around

Limbo, the beloved indie title of the last year that had you running around being terrified of spiders was released a full year earlier on the Xbox 360 simply because Sony tried to force the indie developer, Playdead, to hand over the IP to Limbo and they refused.

The new Humble Indie Bundle is too good to miss

Each time there’s a new Humble Indie Bundle  - a collection of Indie games that showcase the best that independent developers have to offer, for the price of whatever the heck you want - it gets better. This latest one though, is decidedly kick-ass.

Next project from Limbo creators “even weirder”

There’s no denying that Limbo, the incredible greyscale platform game from Danish developers Playdead was as odd as it was inventive, clever, and brilliant. According to Playdead boss Dino Patti, the company’s next game - something they’re obfuscatingly calling “project two” will be “more weird” than Limbo, and I can’t wait.

Opinion: Suffocating the gaming industry one formula at a time

There’s a deep problem in how we consider our mediums of creative expression. Films, games, comics – all seem to be confined by the actual methods of production of their initial stages. I’ll confine myself here to games. You know who I don’t care about? Italian plumbers with a propensity to eating mushrooms, bashing their heads on bricks, squashing tortoises, and saving air-headed blondes who indulge in bestiality. You know who else? Big, ugly men with bigger guns shooting at uglier – usually reptilian – creatures.

Limbo reviewed – Beauty in negative spaces

Originally released in 2010 as an exclusive Xbox Live Arcade title, PC gamers now have the chance to lay their powerful fingers on a little grey gem called Limbo. Also called, stylishly, LIMBO, we are here concerned with the place the Catholic Church thinks doesn’t really exist anymore, where occupants, usually deemed good, had not performed or experienced the necessary attributes to get into Heaven. To be clear, we are not concerned with the sport your back will hate you for.

To be upfront about this new entity occupying my mind, time and attention, I’m quite fond of it. If I had to choose between LIMBO and a date with Megan Fox, I would choose LIMBO; if playing LIMBO meant I could never watch films again, LIMBO would trump without hesitation.

Limbo confirmed for PSN and Steam

It's true folks! Developer Playdead have confirmed that Limbo is coming to the PlayStation Network and Steam before the year is out. Hit the jump for more news on this exciting development!

Limbo, ‘Splosion Man and Trials getting a retail release

Three Xbox Live Arcade hits, Limbo, 'Splosion Man and Trials, are getting bundled into one retail release. A Japanese and a US version of the retail triple pack have been confirmed by Twisted Pixel CEO and Amazon.com respectively. Originally download-only titles, a retail release of these highly successful XBLA games just might be what many people have wanted, especially those without the loads of extra cap to blow on downloading games. Could this be the start of a new drive by Microsoft to put out physical copies of successful Xbox Live Arcade Games?

LIMBO completely owns the list of nominations for GDC Awards

Alright, I know that I harp on about this game, but it really is that good. It’s appealed to a massive amount of gamers across the world, and now game developers as a whole have given Playdead Studios’ debut game a very special nod of approval. The annual Game Developers Choice Awards is similar to any other type of game awards, except that the people who vote for them are the people who, you know, actually make videogames. It’s safe to say that they probably know what they are talking about when it comes to things like design, technology, audio etc. which is convenient because those are the kinds of categories found in the GDCAs. So how did LIMBO do? There are ten awards; LIMBO has been nominated for seven of those including Game of the Year. That’s more than Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 were able to get. Full list of nominees coming up.

LittleBigPlanet 2 + LIMBO = my mind blown (again)

I loved LittleBigPlanet and I love Sackboy – he’s just so gosh-darn cute you can’t help loving him. One thing I love more, however, is the decidedly dark but fascinating LIMBO. I f*****g loved LIMBO... LOVED it. So what happens when two of my all-time favourite platformers collide? I get ridiculously excited and reminded just how unbelievably versatile the customisation tools are for LBP2. If this is the sort of stuff that gets made by the community during the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta, then I think it’s safe to say that Media Molecule is set to blow my mind once again; with a little help from clever gamers as well, of course. Check out the video after the jump.

LIMBO is the top seller during Summer of Arcade

And in climbing to that lofty spot above the plethora of Xbox Live Arcade titles over the last few months, the game also weaselled its way deeper into my heart. Well, to be fair, it had done that three seconds into my initial playthrough, but still, this is great news for Playdead Studios. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer (vice-president of Microsoft Games Studios) just went on record to say that LIMBO has indeed sold the most copies during the Xbox Summer of Arcade promotion “by a long stretch”.

In Other News – August 19 2010

It’s Thursday. Thursday is the worst day of the week, designed by some evil bastard deity to screw you over just when you though it was time to start relaxing for the weekend. Tomorrow, though will be Friday – leaving the horrors of Thursday just a lingering memory.

It’s also former US President Bill Clinton’s birthday today – so to celebrate every single female in the whole world should smoke a cigar. Ok, not really. Smoking’s bad for you, folks. Even birthday-boy Bill didn’t inhale.

Here’s the news we didn’t post because we’re too busy trying to remove semen stains from our blue dresses.

Zero Punctuation: Limbo and Death Spank

This week Yahtzee reviews both Limbo (Xbox 360) and Death Spank (PS3). Both these XBLA/PSN titles have been getting rave reviews so which one does Yahtzee recommend if you can only afford one?

Well it depends if you are an intelligent well to do person or a pizza chugging slob and for me that really does depend on what time of the month it is.

Video: There’s a Limbo In Your LittleBigPlanet

Xbox 360 fanboys had a bit of a quiet giggle to themselves, in the knowledge that their console of choice currently has the exclusive to possibly one of the most incredible gaming experiences ever released, Limbo.

Some really creative bloke with a PS3 and a copy of LittleBigPlanet decided that he wanted Limbo on the PS3 as well, and using the games tool, did exactly that. Seriously though, this is a really impressive video, that shows a Limbo recreated in LittleBigPlanet.

It's awesome and you should watch it, video after the jump.

If I asked everyone to cheer if they love Thursday, I'm almost sure that even the crickets wouldn't pipe up. That's because Thursday is that annoying thing that gets in the way of Friday, and Fridays are awesome.

Have you played Limbo yet? It's pretty damn incredible, albeit very short, but still... it's one of those games that everyone should play. So like, do that.
