It’s a big world out there, and with technology bringing us closer than ever, it’s also a more connected world. Gamers are one group of such people, being able to experience their favourite titles at a moments notice thanks to services such as Xbox Live and the Playstation Network (Or SEN as it will now be known).
Of course, we don’t have access to every ... [»]
Hideo Kojima, the man who brought Solid Snake to life and is arguably one of the most influential game designers of all time (OF ALL TIME!) believes the Japanese game industry could be in a spot of bother, unable to compete with the AAA titles western developers are churning out. ... [»]
So the PS Vita has finally been released in the land of the rising sun and while it’s first week’s sales only come in 4th on the all time charts it is important to remember that it’s first weeks sales only include 2 days.
On Saturday and Sunday in Japan the PS ... [»]
If you ever played Demons Souls, then you no doubt know just how frustratingly difficult and merciless the title was. It was without remorse, and it caused many a gamer to throw in the towel. Geoff still goes into a comatose state whenever we mention the game.
Dark Souls, the spiritual successor to that game, is launching this week in Japan, but of course, the ... [»]
You’d never imagine that sizeably substantial price cut would be met with a dramatic increase in sales (no?) but that’s exactly what’s happened. In the four days since Nintendo lopped 40% off of its Japanese 3DS price, the device has gone on to sell as many as 215,000 units. The number makes it is the system's second highest weekly total, following its launch week sales ... While an infinitely bigger success there than on our local market, I think it’s safe to say that the Xbox 360 has been a monumental failure in the land of the rising sun. By June this year, Microsoft had sold 1.5 million consoles in Japan, which sounds relatively impressive, until you figure that the PS3 has sold 6 times that – even though it ... [»]
The 3DS is an amazing, but flawed piece of handheld wizardry. Beyond its mind-blowing (or chunks blowing, if you’re unfortunate) 3D visuals, it’s packed to the brim with some clever features (like Streetpass and Spotpass). Unfortunately, it also has a pretty absurd battery life and an entirely lackluster selection of games. The 3DS might be well on its way to becoming a bona-fide flop, So Nintendo’s doing something about it – by slashing its price by 40%.As of next month, the 3DS will be sold for just 15,000 Yen (R 1 310), down from the 25,000 Yen (R 2 183) ... The 3DS kicked off with a bang when it released just a short while ago.
Sales started slowing down at a very rapid pace however, right up to the point where last week the Nintendo 3DS only sold half that of even the old and unpopular Sony PSP. The Nintendo 3DS has, to date, only sold just over 1 million units in Japan ... [»]
I’ve never gotten into Horse Racing, I don’t see the excitement factor at all so when I saw a link to a Horse Racing Simulator I initially ignored it. But then my curiosity got the better of me and I took a look. Man the Japanese are a ... [»]
And the reason for that couldn’t be more understandable or obvious: the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan. President for Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Jack Tretton, has revealed the likelihood of a delay in an interview with Bloomberg.According to Tretton, some of Sony’s factories in the northern part of Japan ... The 3DS is out in Japan. The handheld launched on Saturday (26 February) with an initial amount of 400 000 units. They were all snatched up - in one day. I guess that means the Japanese launch is going well?According to Destructoid’s Dale North (who is in Japan) the launch was somewhat ... [»]
Motion controls are all the rage right now, primarily thanks to Nintendo’s market-dominating Wii and metoo follow-ups by Microsoft and Sony. Imagine a game controlled not through the motion of your arms, wrists or even your whole body – but rather one controlled by your lips and tongue. Thanks to artist Hye Yeon Nam, that’s now a reality. For reasons known only to her, and possibly ... [»]
Nintendo’s 3DS is one of the most exciting bits of handheld tech to be unleashed on the gaming world – primarily thanks to its thaumaturgically powered 3D. Believe it or not, but it gets its Nipponese release next month, with a US and European release to follow in a month or two. When it hits Japanese shelves in a few weeks, it’ll be accompanied by 8 games – just a handful of the titles announced for the platform. Hit the jump for the somewhat disappointing list of Japanese launch titles. It’s not a terrible list ... [»]
More surprising news from Microsoft at TGS this year. As some of the more frequent readers may know, wrestling games are a guilty pleasure of mine. One of my favourites growing up was the fire pro wrestling series on the SuperFamicom (Japan’s version of the SNES). It’s a series of games well known in Japan for having incredibly deep gameplay and a host ... [»]
You know Yakuza, that GTA-esque game that uses a shockingly realistic portrayal of Japan while a former Mob man runs around kicking the hell out of bad guys? Well, it seems Sega is bored of realism and plausibility, and decided to shake things up.With zombies. Yes, zombies. This week, Sega unveiled the game (entitled "Ryu ga Gotoku: Of The End") in the popular Japanese magazine ... [»]
