How’s this for a weird story for the day. Certain people like to install games on their Xbox 360 as it gives them a minute performance boost and apparently saves the DVD drive… however in the case of Doom 3 BFG it gives you no performance boost at all and actually gimps the game.
For some reason that I can’t exactly fathom – because it’s really not that old – id has gone and remade their
lighting engine demo super scary horror FPS Doom 3 in their new id Tech 5 engine; the same one that powers their ultimately disappointing post-apocalyptic snore-fest, Rage.
Doom 3, a game we all played in the last generation is coming to current generation consoles. This is a disturbing trend; we’ve seen games that are barely a handful of years old being re-released this generation, packing in nary an update or increased feature-set beyond “HD GRAPHICS.” Most HD remakes are little more than a quick cash-in, unfortunately. id’s Tim Willits wants you to know that the company’s imminent re-release of Doom3 isn’t like the others.
