Dead Space 3 is Dead Space by name only. We liked it a lot as an action game, but as Dead Space it just fell a little flat. It could have fallen even lower – as rumours have begun circulating that EA has canned the Dead Space franchise.
Dead Space and Resident Evil have both completed their transformations from survival horror to all-out-action romps. Silent Hill is quickly becoming a forgotten memory and Alone in the Dark is best left exactly there. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find “horror” games in the AAA retail space. the last one I played and actually loved was ZombiU – but that was more “tense” as opposed to scary. Gears of War Designer Clifford Bleszinski says that’s because nobody buys scary games.
Dead Space 3 arrived and I was excited, despite all my groaning about reveals of co-op, a pay to win structure and the fact that the game is about going to a frozen planet instead of being, you know, in space. So with the sound turned up way too high, the lights dimmed and my newly purchased adult diaper firmly in place, I was ready to face the necromorphs and pause to grab the calming meds if needed...
Then I started fighting humans.
The Dead Space franchise has done a Resident Evil on us, and while it may still be filled with tension, it’d be hard to convince anybody that the game still falls under the “survival horror” banner. The chap who wrote the first game and much of the story arc for its sequel describes the change in focus as ”a necessary evil.”
EA has dropped a new Crysis 3 trailer onto YouTube that gives us a bit more of a look at the story behind Crysis 3 as well as some incredible graphics and hunting montages using the awesome Bow
Dead Space 3 will be out in South Africa tomorrow – and judging from the mixed, but mostly positive review scores it’s going to keep you in rapt suspense all weekend. Some have even called it the finest game of this generation – and today, it could be yours. We’re giving away 3 digital download tokens for the game today. Here’s how you could get your hands on one of them.
Dead Space 3 includes a system of micro-transaction that allows you to make the game easier by paying for items instead of farming them in-game. It’s optional, and intended for the instant-gratification crowd but it’s obviously just a shrewd move to grab extra cash from the inherently lazy and those who have no qualms with paying to win. And it might all be for nought.
Dead Space 3 is coming this week – and from early reviews it looks like it might be a winner, even if it’s a little more action-oriented and feature’s some pretty nasty micro-transactions. It also features a bunch of Kinect Voice commands because that seems to be the only way to shove Kinect features in to “core” games, and the game will react to you swearing at it. Now you can see what other effects your beautiful words will have in the game.
Ohh boy. Dead space 3’s got a ton of DLC it seems. We already know that the game features a few in-game microtransactions letting people pay for the privilege of boosting their weapon crafting – but now it looks like the game will have eleven bits of day-one DLC to make the game easier for the instan-gratification crowd.
When I think about the Dead Space series I don’t get much further than the pure horror of the Necromorphs and the fact that it is one of the scariest games of this generation.. but it is actually a lot more than that and this trailer shows you that.
We already know that the Pc version of action-horror Dead Space 3 will be little more than a port of the console versions, without much in the way of PC-centric enhancements, such as Direct X 11 support. Dead Space director Steve Papoutsis is shocked that people even care, and you PC gamers should pretty much be happy that you’re getting the game in the first place.
Despite all the current negativity surrounding Dead Space 3’s mainstream appeal and pay-to-win micro-transactions, I’m pretty excited – because I know that even though the game might not scare the pants off of me, it’ll be a pretty damned solid action experience, made all the better by co-op. EA’s released the game’s launch trailer – and the biggest surprise is the absolute and complete lack of dubstep whatsoever.
The Master Race demands nice things; and by nice things I mean a swathe of video and graphical settings, DirectX 11, and super high-resolution textures. The PC version of Dead Space 3 will contain none of these things.
Hey! If you own an Xbox 360 and aren’t afraid of either Facebook or Origin, you could be playing the Dead Space 3 demo right now. EA is giving early access to the demo to select Xbox gamers, by way of a download code,by following the Dead space Facebook and Twitter accounts
