Final Fantasy XII Remake in the works

FFXII

When I joined the team all that time ago, Geoff already knew that I would be the JRPG girl. We had a discussion about which Final Fantasy was best and why, and FFXII came up as the best modern-ish Final Fantasy. However, only being playable on PS2, it was already quite behind the times. But that’s okay, because thanks to the remaster/remake mantra of this generation, what’s old can be new again.

As the only Final Fantasy that hasn’t been released in some way, shape or form on modern consoles, it makes sense for Square Enix to bring it to the masses. However, I don’t think they necessarily wanted it announced this way.

Final Fantasy XII was a real change for the franchise. Each iteration is unique and offers different combat and experiences. FFXII was much more tactical, plus it was the first core Final Fantasy game that allowed players to avoid random encounters. RPG fans who missed out on the PS2 generation (really, is there anyone on this planet who didn’t have a PS2?) will probably be really happy to finally get their hands on this installment.

I’m just curious if this is an actual remake or an HD remaster. Normally, I’d be inclined to think that it’s just a typical HD remaster, complete with prettier textures and some improved controls. However, Squeenix got a lot of love with the announcement of the much anticipated Final Fantasy VII remake. Will se maybe see FFXII get similar treatment? Then again, with it being a much more modern title, it hopefully shouldn’t take much to give it a bit of a spit polish and fix up those things that got muddled when lost in development hell for all those years. Either way, I’d be keen to give it another whirl; I liked that universe a whole lot more than FFXIII’s.

So if they really wanna do good, they would remaster the International Zodiac Job System which was a Japan release version only. If you loved the game as is, the IZJS would make you fall in love with it all over again. Game features new license boards AND actual classes, which really makes the game feel completely new. New gambits, modes, enemies and the ability to speed up battles at the press of a button. Playable guests and Espers as well as PROPER loot. New spells, items and lots of re-balancing…I’m hopeful, they have said they’ll do it if X HD was a success which is was, for the most part.

So how many FF titles do Squeenix have In Development then? Are any of them EVER going to come out at this rate? Here’s an Idea, work on ONE FF title at a time, and Maybe they’ll finish one…

FF XV is almost done. They’re rebooting the marketing as it still has that Versus transition looming over it’s head. FF 7 however is likely far away. I think if this rumor is true we’ll see XII probably sometime next year in the interim before FF XV’s release

That may be so, But Still, That’s too many unfinished projects, They really
should try to focus on one Title at a time in a franchise….

It’s a bad idea from a business perspective to have so many announced projects without any indication of completion date.

And you just know there’s a vocal minority out there using this as ammo for why FFXV will nver come out….

They’re working to change major parts of the game in response to what people didn’t like in the demo, and they’re patching the freakin’ demo.

No way we see XV until fall 2016 at the earliest. Kingdom Hearts III will probably be 2017/2018. Wouldn’t be surprised if the FFVII remake gets pushed onto the next generation. Square Enix announces games way too early; they should wait until they know the game will actually be completed.

Fully agree, WAAAAY to early, but alas, they’ve been changing so I’m hopeful. I actually think we’ll see FF XV early next year and a remaster in between or even Setsuna, but that’s just me being optimistic lol KH…I don’t know anymore, though Nomura has said they’ve more or less completed basic gameplay and mechanics…who knows what that means though lol

FF12 was pretty great even though it took me a while to figure out if the main character was male or female.

Yeeeess, yeeeeeess! I am pleased with this news! FF12 is my favorite, next to FF9 and FF10. It still has my favorite combat system, fantastic characters and fantastic *voice acting*! Balthier and Fran, I miss you D:

I definitely hope the remake includes content from the game’s exclusive re-release in Japan, and all the mechanical and narritive changes they made to it then.

FF12 more tactical?! Isn’t that an oxymoron? Seriously if anything 12 removed that tactics since you didn’t actually control the party. And wtf was up with not having random encounters? I quit this POS before the first boss. Here’s hoping turn-based comes back with FF7.
