A while back South Africa was challenged to a Dota 2 face-off by Romania. Even though we were caught off-guard, National Trials have been organised to determine which team will be selected as the Protea team to take Romania up on their challenge.
The trials will consist of two parts, online qualifiers and the final LAN event. Why a LAN event? So that every one can see your sexy face. The awesome thing is that individuals won’t be selected to be a part of the team, but you get to put together your own team and that team will be selected as a whole. Here is how it is going to go down.
Qualifiers will be held for teams who are already affiliated with the MSSA and teams who convert their clans to clubs and affiliate or sign up under another club (even if it is just for this event). The catch? If you enter your team into the MSSA’s Dota 2 On-line Championships you need to make sure that the players can carry their own travelling costs. Because there is no budget to pay for the players to get to the LAN event, teams who enter must make sure they can get there on their own accord. Whether you all live in the same city or scattered across the country. In short, if you expect your team to become the Protea team, make sure all of you can get to the LAN that will be the decider.
The Dota 2 On-line Championships will be held on 6 April and be hosted by Polarfluke. There are no entry fees for the qualifiers.
National Trials: LAN
The trials will be held in the area where the majority of qualifiers live. So if the most people of those who qualified live in Johannesburg, it will be held there, if the most live in Cape Town, the trials will be held there. The top three teams or top 20% (whichever is greater) of the qualifiers will be invited to the trials.
The date for the trials has not been pinned down yet, but it’s very likely to happen in April. And again, players will have to be able to get themselves to the event.
When all this is over, we will have a Protea team for Dota 2 and BAM! We will take over the world, starting with Romania.
