2009 African Continentals – SK Gaming Returns Getting There
   February 3rd, 2009 clock image 1:15 pm

SK I have received a press release from MSSA in regards to their upcoming 2009 African Continentals and SK Gaming.

For a quick background check, SK Gaming are one on the top gaming clans in the world and generally just travel around the world playing in tournaments and challenging national teams… not such a hard life.

MSSA have confirmed that short of unforseen circumstances they will be bringing SK Gaming back out this year to see how our best fair against them.

However it was mentioned in a previous post that the last time they were out one of our teams destroyed them 23-1 so maybe this time they would like to bring their A game with them as we are sure to publish the results, whichever side wins.

As always though there is a catch, SK gaming will be coming out to play our national team, a team that can only be selected by the MSSA and as such you will need to register for the MSSA leagues if you would like to give it a go.

So if you want national colours and also to pit yourself against SK Gaming then head on over to the MSSA website and set your team up in the leagues.

Just to clarify, the team that lost 23-1 was a counter-strike team.

The MSSA had this wonderful idea to bring the Counter-Strike (SK) team over to play against our CoD4 teams, to which SK had no knowledge of the maps, and hardly knew what to to, as the gameplay from CS to COD4 is quite different.

The real match was SK vs Bravado (SA’s best cs team) to which Bravado tied to SK on 1 map (forcing the game into over time – which they lost) and then Bravado lost the second map, SK winning quite convincingly.

Only the lord knows what is going through, or being passed during MSSA board meetings, BRINGING A CS team to play COD4???!!!! thats a new one.

The MSSA are trying to make a profit out of peoples passions.

  • DarkOcean

Profit ? The MSSA dont make profit they brought SK out so that local gamers could experience the kind of level of competitiveness gamers can expect abroad. They brought them to SA so it was easier for local gamers to experience this first hand rather than a select few that are fortunate enough to win big comps and travel overseas.
If Im correct the MSSA is a non profit organisation and are concernd with the upliftment of gaming in SA. No one will make profits through their initiatives unlike past big gaming event organisers.

    lol
    Are u a PC gamer ?
Have u been to one of MSSA’s events?
    Are u registered with them?

    MSSA is a joke…

  • bo0m

Rather support AGASA http://www.agasa.co.za and see what they do for gaming in South Africa

  • Jeeva

    Lol @ DarkOcean.

“he MSSA dont make profit they brought SK out so that local gamers could experience the kind of level of competitiveness gamers can expect abroad.”

It will help if they play they same game.

  • Craan

If u wanna bring SK over make it a 1.6 event not a cod4…. thats just a waste of time

  • http://www.mintgaming.co.za z1

    Okay DarkOcean
    1. MSSA gave SK a free holiday to come here (Everything paid for)
    2. MSSA charge people a registration fee to actually be apart of the MSSA
    3. They charge their members entrance into their events
    4. The only prize they give out are colours
    5. Where does all the money go to from the Registration fee’s + entrance fee’s?
    6. AGASA is truly a non-profit-organisation (1. they do not charge registration or entrance fees / 2. They have hardware prizes at the end of their leagues / 3. They have organised events (un like the MSSA where gamers have to basically look after themselves)
    7. “They brought them to SA so it was easier for local gamers to experience this first hand rather than a select few that are fortunate enough to win big comps and travel overseas”
    - Uh buddy Only a fortunate few played against SK properly , bvd.
    8. don’t back the MSSA you will be hated by many.
    9. Think you should’ve read up on the facts and asked around before posting.
    10. thx

  • DarkOcean

Yea I am a PC gamer.

Didnt they play DOTA as well ? Wasnt that the main reason they came? I saw them kick some serious but in DOTA.

Okay lets look at provincial clubs and sport.

    1. I play Club Cricket
    2. I pay the club a yearly fee.
    3. Club pays my registration fee to Gauteng Cricket Board.
    4. When our team wins Cricket League, Yes Gauteng Cricket League we dont win any Prizes, Money, Cricket Bats etc. etc. We win a floating trophy and the pride that comes with achieving the feat.

In my humble opinion competitive gaming in SA will never get better unless it is grown at grass roots level and clubs are formed everywhere as traditional sport are run.

Z1 Ive been in the gaming industry for a long time and sponsored many events and still do so I think I am quite read up when it comes to the topic. I feel everybody should be a little more open minded and give things a chance. Speaking to the MSSA and organisers I see no Malice but rather the will to uplift gamers and bring a bit of change to the local competitive gaming scene.

We are also all entitled to our opinions :)

DarkOcean, like stated previously – I’ve been apart of the MSSA leagues, I’ve met the organizers at rAge. Half the stuff they say is complete trash. Their leagues no where near well run.

The AfriCon event where SK came was a CoD4 and DotA comp. SK brought their dotA team, as well as their CS team. Their CS team got raped 23-1 most of their games. It was a waste of time for the CoD community.
