Forza Motorsport 6 review round-up

Forza Motorsport has, by and large, been the king of simulation racing for years now after wrestling the title from a limp and weakened Gran Turismo. Since then not many have tried to claim it back, but recent attempts like Project Cars and Assetto Corsa earlier this year might have offered up some healthy competition to the Microsoft-owned franchise.

Forza Motorsport 6 is nearly here to notch another year up on to its illustrious history, but is the sequel as shallow as its new 3D puddles? Reviewers far and wide don’t seem to think so at all.

IGN – 9/10

Like a big bucket of Hot Wheels brought to life, Forza Motorsport 6 is first-order car porn for the automobile obsessed but remains an accessible and exciting racer for those who just want to drive fast in something red with a horse logo on it. It’s spinning its wheels in a few areas but what’s here is undoubtedly some of the finest racing you can find on console and easily worth the upgrade from Forza 5.

Destructoid – 9.5 /10

Despite a lot of these upgrades, Forza 6 does feel somewhat like an apology letter for the last main iteration. It’s important to note that if you don’t really love the idea of reworked rain effects, you probably won’t find a whole lot that’s fundamentally new outside of the fact that there’s just more to do in general.

For me though, it was enough to outright bring me back into the racing fold. I found myself racing for hours, racking up credits, ferociously buying new cars to add to my garage, and cursing at my friend’s Drivatars. Forza 6 is the new king of simulation racing.

Gamespot – 8/10

As merely the second installment for the Xbox One, Forza Motorsport 6 not only keeps up with the high bar set by Forza 5, it capitalizes on that foundation of quality. The Mod system and the weather effects are reasons enough for Forza 5 enthusiasts to seriously consider this sequel and the abundance of difficulty and assist options makes Forza 6 an immensely accessible driving simulation for newcomers.

Shacknews – 9/10

Forza-6-3-1280x720

Forza Motorsport 6 is what I always wanted a next-gen driving game to be. It offers beautiful visuals, a wide variety of options, and uses real-world physics to dictate how vehicles perform. I could easily see myself playing Forza 6 for several months, or even years. I’ve never experienced a driving game with this level of polish, and it’s unlikely anything will unseat it in the near future.

Polygon – 8/10 (Provisional)

CarAnnounce-W5-Audi-67Rotek-WM-Forza6-1-jpg

With the loss of some of its personality, Forza Motorsport 6 sometimes feels like a little less than the sum of many much improved parts, and there are certain quality-of-life changes that feel increasingly overdue. But these are only distractions, bumps in the road that make Forza feel “just” great when looked at from a distance. And in the playing, Turn 10 feels like it’s found its line even more effectively.

The Verge – No Score

e3-2015-forza-6-0012-1500x844

It is beautiful, extremely deep, and has enough modes and features to keep you entertained forever. (I haven’t even mentioned the multiplayer modes, including Forza 5’s “Rivals” and full-fledged leagues that are matched to your skill level.) If you liked Forza 5, you will love 6. Heck, even if you disliked 5 there’s a good chance you’ll like 6, if for no other reason than the fact that it’s the new standard-bearer for graphics realism on the Xbox One. As I said from the top: just buy it.

And so it seems Turn 10 manages to once again do what they do best with racing, producing an almost unanimously incredible simulation game for the Xbox One yet again. Experience is really at work here, and it’s tough right now to see a time where Forza Motorsport isn’t the pit stop for all gaming petrol heads out there.

Will you be picking it up when it launches on September 15th?

Sorry to say this, by Forza has never been, and never will be, a pure sim. That’s not what they are going for. So obviously, Forza cannot be the “king of simulation racing” if it isn’t in the same class as iRacing, Assetto Corsa or even Project Cars.

But, the fact that its not a pure racing sim is what attracts a lot of people to it. I like racing sim games, but I just couldn’t get going in Project Cars. It’s a great game, but just not

Yeah no I definitely agree. I’m not saying it’s a negative, but rather a complete lack of knowledge on Alessandro’s behalf 😛

I still prefer Project Gotham Racing 4. Now that’s how you do 60fps back in 2007.
But as a SONY PONY, Project Cars will replace the next GT. Hell GT4 took 4 years to make. All those polygons in the cup holder on the dash…

60fps was done on the dreamcast. (decathlon for one) it all depends on how much detail you have

I was taking a jab at how our so called next gen consoles can hardly handle 60fps while not creating a white dwarf in the process.

FORZA 2 was also doing it back then. But… SONIC was still faster.

        PGR was brilliant. Loved it.
Assetto Corsa, these days, is one of the best you can get though.

Yeah good point, the game is total bullshit because it doesn’t have 3D puddles. They might as well stop with development on PC2 right now because a random troll on the internet doesn’t like their game.

I’m so happy Turn 10 pulled it back after Forza 5. The game seems awesome and will hopefully inspire Kaz & Co to pull up their socks and create a better GT.

If there was one game I’d want to be on PC, it is Forza. I like Assetto Corsa, but sometimes I just wish to race around in “normal” cars.

I LOVED FORZA 3, I still do. But what TURNED me off FORZA 5 was how they dissected everything into DLC, including the Nurburgring that came 7 months later.

Are all these cars and tracks in FORZA 6 also DLC?

because I am sure I am not the only gamer on the planet who finds it A TOTAL BALL BUST just trying to download DLC that is bigger than an XBOX 360 game like The Wither 3 patch.

so, like 5. Tracks, just a few more. But the same tracks all the time. Why not make up your own tracks? Build your own.

I will get bored, just like in 5.

Yeah, mine at end of the month. Last year was Civ Beyond earth. I wonder, this year? Fallout 4 pre-order? But that is two months after my birthday. A bit long.

      Thoughts?

GTA V came out on my birthday two years ago, but on console only, so I still haven’t bought it.
There’s not much coming around this time actually. The only really big names is Tony Hawks Pro Skater and Forza. Neither of which I’ll be getting.
Mad Max has me a bit intrigued, but looks too much like another re-skinned Batman game.
The best you probably have is the new Metal Gear Solid. Act of Aggression on pc looks pretty cool for a nice RTS (which have become so few and far between these days).

I like to always have at least one Sim racer to enjoy for true gritty racing and then an arcade that I can sit back with my controller and just relax.

It must be fun, for me. Not a sim. Why must I learn, practise and all that? I want fun out the box.

I get that. I’m quite a car enthusiast though, so I do enjoy the fight and then the satisfaction of doing well in a sim game. Though I can only play so long before I’m completely tired out from it.
I’m playing The Crew at the moment with a friend though for my arcade fix, and having a blast with it. Really cool game, regardless of the awful Uplay.

I’m still in two minds, I really enjoy racing games but I haven’t even finished 5 yet and get the feeling that 6 is going to be in essence the same as the previous 5 installments I’ve played. That said the demo for 6 is cool and I enjoyed the night racing and puddle jumping.

Shrugs shoulders, maybe I’ll just flip a coin to decide.
