Two years after Crysis 2 was released to groaning under-equipped PCs, and it’s time for part trois to once again set a few 3D benchmarks on fire. The scores are in, and the general consensus is that Crysis 3 is one purdy looking game overall. Here’s a look at what the critics who got the game before us are saying.

Here’s the current mixed bag of scores:

IGN – 8.5
OPM – 8
Videogamer – 6/10
Destructoid – 7.5
Gamespot – 7.5
Polygon – 7
Digital Spy – 4/5
Eurogamer – 7
Joystiq – 4/5
GameTrailers – 9
CVG – 8.5
PC Gamer – 81/100
GameInformer – 8.5

It seems that Crysis 3 is a pretty decent game, but one that is hamstrung by a lacklustre single-player campaign and questionable enemy AI. Scoring on the high side, IGN says that Crysis is a;

Polished iteration on the previous Crysis titles. Its campaign mode features some much needed soul beneath the sci-fi sheen, which gives a sense of purpose to all the killing that has been previously absent from the series. While its multiplayer mode isn’t quite strong enough to tear you away from the genre leaders for long, it at least provides enough of its own flavour to present a worthy alternative.

On the lower end of the review spectrum, Videogamer hit it with a six out of ten, indicating some possible niche territory appeal to this specific game;

By the end of the game I was bored silly, and considering the scope of what was going on that shouldn’t have been the case. Sadly, bar a few exceptions – a Jurassic Park-style hunting section in long grass, an open-ended assault on Ceph AA emplacements – I’d rinsed and repeated the same thing so much that I couldn’t care less. Which, given that I was the world’s most powerful being, says it all.

And with a more middle score compared to the other critics, comes Destructoid with 7.5;

Crysis 3 attempts to strike a balance between Crysis and Crysis 2, but in doing so manages to lose a little bit of what made each game appealing. The result is a title that doesn’t truly match the open-ended excitement of the first game nor the revelatory empowerment of the second, yet manages to provide enough of both to at least tantalize, even if it doesn’t completely satisfy. Solo play is shorter than previous installments and not as enjoyable, but multiplayer goes some way toward apologizing for it by stepping up its game and providing a gripping new experience in Hunter mode.

Crysis 3 is out on Friday, for Xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3.

    I just wonder how many scores are going to be ‘re-set’ once some of the reviewers actually FINISH the game. You know who you are 😛

    After the horrific experience with Aliens, I will not pre-order a game anytime soon unless I know that it wont suck.

    Crysis 1 and 2 was very boring for me, so I will pass on this one. The Crysis 3 vids are very nice but on the end of the day, it is not the looks that keep me hooked ..

      Crysis 2 wasn’t that great but Crysis1 was great. Loved the “open” feel to it. Crysis2 was WAAAAAAAAY to linear.

      But yeah, I was burnt once to many times with pre-ordering and I don’t do it anymoe either. Diablo2 was my last pre-order ever.

    I don’t see a point on that arrow he’s drawing. Do you have to make a micro-transaction first?

    I’d rinsed and repeated the same thing so much that I couldn’t care less…That is exactly the feeling I got from Crysis 2, never finished the game.
