Guerrilla is made by the same people who made Saints Row 2 – Volition. SR2 is much more entertaining.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare RF:G with Deus Ex. Rather compare to GTA and Saints Row. Saints Row is the most fun I’ve had with sandbox game thus far. (You can pick it up for R200 at Game)
Like Yahtzee said, the problem with sandbox games is they are jacks of all trades but masters of none.

I’m the opposite; Much like Karl, without a good story I find myself unenthused, and less driven to complete a game.

Of course there are exceptions to this, where the ridiculous fun of a game overrides my need for a story. Crackdown says hello.

Agreed, Modern Warfare is a great example. Useless story, but excellent gameplay and pacing which equal great immersion.

Open world games need to try that much harder to immerse a player than linear games do.

Plenty of great games do not have much of a story at all. It’s all about having fun or being challenged.
I could not care less about a story , that is what books or movies are for.

You got it spot on with RF:G. Here is a game that sounds like it is going to be fun but it isn’t. It would have been slightly better if you didn’t have to drive for five minutes to find something to do!! Many times I booted it up to have a play and before I had gotten out of the “safe house” I wanted to turn it off!!
