All of us here at Lazygamer have played the heck out of Borderlands 2 – finishing the game multiple times with multiple characters. Despite knowing the game inside and out, we were still keen to get grippy with the handheld version of the game that’s set to hit the PlayStation Vita. That enthusiasm has been somewhat dampened.
The Vita version of the game will feature a castrated multiplayer offering, reducing the iconic 4 player co-op to a more subdued 2-player. A new hands-on by PlayStation Blog revealed the unfortunate player cap – adding that the team tried to include more players, but technical restraints kept that from happening.
“…while they strived to include four-player co-op in the game, they made a decision late in their development cycle to focus on providing the best two-player-only co-op experience possible,” says PS blog. “As a result, the maximum co-operative player count for Borderlands 2 on PS Vita is capped at two.”
It’s not quite a deal-breaker, but Borderland’s fun factor increases exponentially with each added player, making the Vita version quantifiably half as fun as the console and PC versions. To take the sting out of that a little, you will be able to import your PS3 saves to the handheld version, and then send them back to the main game – making the Vita perfect for levelling up, shooting and looting on the go. The Vita version also includes a chunk of the game’s DLC.
“Borderlands 2 on Vita includes the campaign packs “Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty” and “Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage”; the Vault Hunter Upgrade pack, and the Collector’s Edition Pack!”
Gearbox’s Borderlands 2 has gone on to become 2K Games most successful game ever – and this Vita version will add to its success. Not by much though.

I do for local coop purposes. Not due to online. It does suck kind of. The cooperative experience just adds to an already fantastic game. It’s still worth it, even if there was no coop at all.

This article makes it seem like the whole game is a fail. Sure it’s some what disappointing that it’s 2 player co-op instead of 4(what were you expecting out of a handheld), it’s not as big of a deal as these people make it. This seems to be the only true shortcoming with the game. Just respect that the Vita got a good title.

“Half the fun” – speculation. Wait until you actually play the damn thing before making judgments like this.
