Hey, did you hear? Journey, that delightfully artistic game that happens to be one of the biggest sellers on the Playstation 3 and its network, just got nominated for another award. And this one is a biggie, because Journey is now the first game soundtrack to ever get the nod for a Grammy award. Like, evars.

Yep, the orchestral score from that cult game has been nominated for a Grammy award in the category of Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media. While it’s the first entire game score to receive a nomination, back in 2009, Baba Yetu from Civilisation 4 received an award for  “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)”.

It’ll be going head to head with some other big names in this field though, from The Adventures Of Tintin – The Secret Of The Unicorn, The Artist, The Dark Knight Rises, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Hugo.

Composed by Austin Wintory, the sound maestro was completely flabbergasted at this announcement, as he replied on Twitter;

The awards itself, are going to be held next year February 10, and it’s a bit of fantastic news to hear that a bit of gaming has finally managed to creep into such a prestigious event. Will Journey win though? I most certainly hope so, but then again, this is the same institution that gave the award for best metal band to some flakes with flutes over Metallica back in 1989.

Let’s hope that this year, the Grammy Awards institution is actually in touch with their audience, because the Journey soundtrack is something special. And yes, this is me talking, wanting that award to beat Batman.
