Sure, Sony may have plenty of dedicated studios developing content exclusively for them, but one such title that just can’t seem to be finished on time has to be The Last Guardian.

It’s been through numerous delays and has seen some of its key staff part ways with the title recently, and it appears as if TLG may soon be approaching a level of lateness that is on par with Duke Nukem Forever.

Sony is well aware of this however, and it looks like the company has gone west in order to get the game finished.

Speaking to Wired, Sony game design chief Shuhei Yoshida recently confirmed that Santa Monica Studios, the developers behind God of War, have teamed up with several other western developers in order to advise and aid the Japanese development team on TLG, Team Ico.

“Well, you know, it’s not just Santa Monica. We have great tech people in Worldwide Studios. We have a central tech group in the U.S. and the UK so we are giving them whatever help they need. Technically, we have the best engineers in the U.S. and Europe, so these teams are helping them, giving advice,” Yoshida said.

Yoshida then explained that in order for Team Ico to craft a game with grand ambitions, several technical hurdles had to be overcome, with Sony doing whatever it could to solve such issues, resulting in a launch window that could not be set or met right now.

“At one point the progress was great, so we talked about the timing of the launch in the past. But now it’s making progress, but still not to the level, it’s playable, but not to the point that we can talk about the timing of launch,” Yoshida said.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating The Last Guardian for quite some time now, as it happens to be a spiritual successor to classic PS2 titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and hopefully, with a little extra help on board, the game can finally be completed.
