Nintendoparty

Sony’s American boss Jack Tretton doesn’t think anything he saw from Nintendo’s E3 Wii-U reveal poses a threat to Sony or its PlayStation 3. In fact, he’s welcomed Nintendo to the party – one that started 5 years ago.

“I didn’t see anything about Nintendo’s announcement that said ‘Oh, we’d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon,’” he said to Forbes. “Our attitude is kind of ‘welcome to the party.’ If you’re looking at being a multimedia entertainment device, if you’re looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us.”

“PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride. And technologically, I don’t think it’s possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have,” said Tretton. “What we’ve seen from the competition is trying to add features that already exist in PlayStation 3. … I wouldn’t look for any discussion of a next generation PlayStation for quite some time.”

Here’s an idea; why don’t you follow your competitors and add some of their features. Cross game chat maybe? Oh wait? What’s that? You are looking at copying a few features from the competition? Possibly. Sony says it can replicate the Wii U experience through the pairing of the PS3 and Sony’s new touch-screen handheld, the PSVita (pronounced veeta and, presumably, dunked into your coffee and eaten)

"Already people are starting to ask about linking Vita and PS3 to do something similar, in terms of using two screens, and having controls on the screen,” Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s head honcho said to develop, adding “Lots of the things that developers of Vita games are doing, as you may have seen, is experimenting with connectivities between Vita and PS3.” Actually..that sounds like it could be pretty cool – as long as I don’t have to buy mobile and console versions of the same games to do it.
