PSA: The PlayStation Network will be down next week

PSA

I’ve moaned a bit lately about the frequency at which Sony’s now paid-for PlayStation network has been going down, all without warning. This time though, we’re getting some warning. The PSN will be down for several hours this coming Monday.

It’ll be down from 10:00 am PDT, which for us here in South Africa is 19:00

“During this time we will deploy a series of back-end improvements to the network,” Sony says.

If you plan to play games on Monday, just make sure you’ve signed in at some point this weekend, and you should be able to log in and play Destiny just fine. You won’t, however, be able to do much else. Grab all of those “free” PlayStation Plus games now, instead of being miserable that you can’t on Monday.

“If you’ve signed in to the network any time since October 8th, you will be able to play games online and access partner apps such as Netflix during this maintenance period. The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during this time, and users may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access these services.

“We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Hopefully this is in preparation for the imminent arrival of PlayStation 4’s 2.0 firmware update, which brings with it – among other things – share play and the ability to upload videos directly to YouTube. Hopefully, this hours-long maintenance period will also make Sony’s online service a little more stable. Regular outages on the PS3 were fine – PSN was a wholly-free service afterall. That’s changed, and consumers expect better.

Here’s hoping they give us our damn Driveclub before this happens!! I know I shouldn’t complain about something that is given to me for free but I was really looking forward to it and it’s starting to wear a bit thin.

I wonder if they’re preparing for Firmware update 2.0 or whether this is all for DriveClub PS+. The more I read up about the firmware update the more excited I’m getting.
