PS Move

ITWire has put up a round up of a recent PS3 press conference where they got to try out the upcoming PS Move.

Sony has officially claimed the lag clocks in at 22 milliseconds which is 1/5th of the lag that Project Natal has been timed at but ITWire still claims this lag is noticeable.

Personally I can’t imagine how 0.022 of a second could really be that noticeable but until we get some hands on time of our own we can’t really dispute that.

In other news they were also left underwhelmed by the 3D Motorstorm demo that was displayed with the biggest complaints being around the HUD being ghostly and the image not being as crisp as expected.. or pretty much exactly what every 3D image looks like to me.

On the good side the Move reacted fantastically to flicking movements and twisting movements which bode well for any sports games in the line up.

You can check out the entire post via the link including the fact that Sony has sold 850 000 PS3’s in the region and that their sales have increased dramatically since that PS3 slim was released last year.

Noticeable? By that they mean — playing quake on a laptop from 2001 which uses the oldest LCD known to man?

Like– uhh, move *wait* AH! Shoot. Oh, you’re already dead.

Hope the delay is not that bad.

Well what is the Dualshock 3 controller lag? How many ms is that? I just don’t see how 0.022 is noticable.

22ms is less than one frame on a 30-45 frame per second game – and for 60fps games it will be less than two frames. I’m pretty sure the same can be said about the Dualshock 3 controller.

The experts reckon the delay needs to be 166ms to feel substantially noticeable. i don;t see how 22ms can even factor.

One thing people need to remember is that the PS3 will receive the data in 22ms (which I would say is identical to the Dualshock). The PS3 then needs to process this and then display those changes on the screen.

So yes the PS3 might receive the Move commands in 22ms but it could take 100ms for all the processing and then the relevant screen dump…

I wonder if the Flash was the one noticing the delays

22ms must be a joke…is that an excuse?, I felt very dissapointed from the first moment I started playing to any game from demo disc to sports champions to resident evil 5, After two years of progress it feels like just another WII remote with different design, what a shame that Banco with Fragnstein can do a greater job with less resources than sony. I say that because I imagined that it would be great for future shooter games but it was a dissapointment to me, 22ms or whatever they want to call it that thing has no precision and doesn’t deal too great fast movements, so I gues I will stick to the dual shock and Fragnstein. I think it’s just my honest opinion about it at the moment and I hardly see it to significantly improve over time , so let’s just not fantasize that much about it being that great…
