PS3 Blu-Ray Class Action Lawsuit Flame On
   May 27th, 2008 clock image 10:17 am

PS3, that is all...

So who remembers the class action lawsuit brought against Microsoft for the defective Xbox 360′s and the problems experienced in Halo 3?

I honestly don’t know what happened with those, and don’t care to follow up, but it seems now that they are not the only console to suffer the fate of seriously unhappy users.

A group is in the process of starting up their own class action lawsuit against Sony for those defective Blu-Ray players, apparently as much as anyone tries they cannot get this problem to go away.

Are we going to start hearing a lot more about this or is it just a bunch of whining Americans here?

Penny Arcade Adventures - On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 1

With all ps3 repairs (which i do full time) replacing the block (optic unit) resolves this problem, therefore it can not be firmwsre. But…..watching dvd’s and B-ray movies surely shortens the readers life! fix and only insert games! All sony’s optics (eye of laser)is plastic!
Long burn rates such as movies stains this optic, and unfortunately b-ray is a much higher frequency thats why it easily stops reading.

    It has been resurrected!!

Mark, If it’s watching blu ray & DVD movies that shorten the lifespan of the “block”, why is it that my PS3 which I never play blu ray or DVD’s on is unable to read game discs. Popped a DVD in to test and it reads. I have had my 40Gig FAT for two years and never played for more than 10 hours a month. Always kept clean too. You Fony wankers are all the same, rather shut up and die, more usefull that way! :za:

Unbelievable but my experience recently is just like everyone else’s on the board. Bought my 80 GIG in DEC 07 and have hardly used it for anything…every now and then will watch a DVD or blue ray. Last weekend it frooze while i was watching a blueray movie…initially thought i had a bad movie so i inserted another DVD and the system required me to do an update…the rest is history just like everyone else on this board! I called Sony and they tried to wak me through some bs to get it running but to no avail…THIS IS CRIMINAL AND MUST STOP! I want in on this classaction lawsuit. Please contact me if anyone here is involved in one. Thanks

    Steve

Also, to Mark the Sony Repairman, you must be making a heck of a lot of money making repairs off of all these innocent people! if this were an automobile we would have a MAJOR RECALL already. How can thousands of people have the identicle problem after doing the upgrade if it’a a hardware issue??? Glad biz is going well for you…you are no better than that crooked mechanic down the street!!!

    Possibly good news for some:
I had the same problem as many (it seems) where my 120GB PS3 froze in the middle of a Blu-Ray movie, would not play it once I restarted the system (manually turning it off), and I made sure to check for updates, but it would not read BDs. I tried many Blu-Ray discs, none of which seemed to be recognized, but it would play dvds, games, and saved movies on the hard drive (inserting a BD led to promising sounds like it was reading the disc, only to be followed by a sound like it was ejecting the disc, though the disc would remain in the system). I’ve been VERY good to my system, being sure to clean it bi-monthly, ensuring it had proper ventilation, etc. I was ready to cry when I saw the standard fix for this problem being 160$ to send it to Sony to be repaired. For whatever reason, I picked it up and inserted a Blu-Ray Disc while tilting the system almost vertically (with the front of the ps3 towards the ceiling) and IT WORKED. I was able to set it down (gently) and the movie continued un-interrupted (I am watching a Blu-Ray right now, as I type this).
I hope this too works for some.
    -S.

    Sara,

It might work for a short time. Mine did the same for the first week. Would work sometimes and sometimes not. But eventually it will fail completely. Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that.

  • Gunterj

I got a fat 60gb bout 6 months after they came out, spent a total 600 dollars and i had no problems for two years then i hooked it up to the internet and a cpl months later it wont read blue ray discs, it reads reg dvds and cds just fine…..also it will sometimes read blu ray games after i set there and insert and remove for a half hour…shitty!!!
