PS2

While Ubisoft may not be making any more dosh off of the antedeluvian Playstation 2, Sony still is! According to a Sony quarterly report 1.6 million of the things were sold in the first quarter of 2009 – up from the 1.5 units that found their way in to homes in the same time last year. A bit of good news for Sony, seeing as their current-gen systems aren’t faring nearly as well.

Both the PS3 and the PSP are having a tough time. PS3 sales are down half a million units during the same time frame – from a healthy 1.6 million to a a less respectable 1.1 – and we haven’t even gotten to the bad news yet. The PSP, which last year seemed to be picking up pace has dropped from 3.7 million units sold to just 1.3 million – That’s so poor that the crestfallen Sony Networked Products and Services group are fingering the device as one of the primary reasons for their staggering Â¥39.7 billion loss. Ouch.

I think the reason is the games, there just aren’t that many great games for the PSP, I’ve owned one since 2005 and I’ve got 6 games, and one downloaded via PSN.
The PS3 is just overpriced in comparison to it’s competitors, I’m still wondering why the Wii is doing so well, we recently sold ours as it wasn’t being used as much as our other consoles.

They might cost the same but they appeal to different markets.
Sadly tho PS3 is appeals the the smaller of the two.
They guys in the middle are just waiting for the ever elusive price drop.

technically speaking the ps3 is not over priced, but the cost is too much for the average person.

like Someone said, a price drop will see if the ps3 has any leg room for major growth.
we wont know till that day comes…

anyway, there’s been a big slow down in the purchase electronic goods of late according the bbcnews, and an already embattled sony seems to be taking the brunt of it.
