I would think that it is used to connect it to some sort of other device turning it into a “gun” or “racket” with its own set of buttons for easier playability. /guess

My best guess would be: It’s to ensure that “cleva” people don’t try and plug the extention unit into their already exiting usb dualshock controllers, LOL

The PS Move has a nunchuck-esque accessory called the sub-controller. It connects to the console wirelessly however.
