Many games will also make a very big point of mentioning that for the Move to work correctly, the rooms lighting must not be too bright or too dark, but rather “just right”. I never actually had any issues with the tracking itself, but playing a game like EyePet at night – that displays the cameras video on the television – had big issues with the video looking incredibly noisy, grainy and blurry. Even after bringing in a big extra lamp to boost the lighting significantly, it looked better but still not great by any means.
Launch Titles
The Playstation Move has the ability to do a whole lot more than just casual games, and this is already evident with the demos shown of Killzone 3 as well as some great tech demos showing off some very nifty things that can be done with the tech. This does however, not change the fact that the launch line-up is completely being targeted at casual gamers.
If you don’t have a family that will enjoy motion gaming, or think that picking up the Move on launch day will wow you with hardcore features that you haven’t already seen on that other motion gaming system, you are sorely mistaken.
Games like Sports Champions may do a good job of showing off what the Move can do, but it’s still targeted at a fairly casual market. On the complete opposite side there are a few games releasing that Sony should be doing everything in their power to avoid. A good example of this would be Kung-Fu Rider. In the segments I played, the game has you controlling a character rolling down a hill on an office chair, dodging obstacles and hitting enemies away.
Not only is the game completely shallow, but all of the movements controlled by the Move controller could (even should) just as easily be done using a normal controller. From what I have seen of the game so far, it makes unnecessary use of the the motion controls and doesn’t even look like an appealing $5 PSN game.
As far as it all goes, there is no real “killer-app” in the Move’s launch line-up and while there are some great things on the way, I don’t see any real reason for any mildly “hardcore” to want to rush out and get it.
The Good
+ Solid controller hardware
+ Great tech that works well
+ Precise 1 to 1 control
+ XMB Interface works well with Move Controller
+ Comfortable controller design
+ Simple setup
+ Price
The Bad
- Launch titles are for casual gamers only
- Some issues with lighting
- Space requirements may cause issues
- Flimsy camera lens
- Requires two controllers to get the full experience
- Constant calibration

Conclusion:
I have come away from my experience with the Playstation Move with no doubt in my mind that this is a really solid piece of technology that does everything you would expect. The level of build quality and design is high overall and it is a welcome addition to the Playstation 3 as an entertainment system.
It’s launch line-up lacks a real killer-app that would want you to rush out and buy it immediately, but with the potential it displays as far as hardcore shooters and even strategy games are concerned, there is a good chance that you would want to pick one up at some point in the not-too-distant future.
If however, you have a family (especially young children) and don’t already own a Nintendo Wii, the Playstation Move will be a great addition to your gaming gadgets and one that everyone will be able to thoroughly enjoy.
Final Verdict: Thumbs-Up
