Playstation Move – Your Ticket to a Virtual Reality. Popular
   July 27th, 2010 clock image 11:30 am

virtualReality

Move isn’t just a glowing, Wii-like love wand. No sir. It is indeed your ticket to the exciting world of virtual reality!

That’s what SCEA senior researcher Richard Marks told IGN, anyway. Using a few demos – including the chameleon and fireball ones we showed you earlier – to showcase the upcoming motion control peripheral, Marks showed how Playstation Move is the future!

“We like to think of it sometimes, instead of a motion controller, as a virtual reality controller,” he said to IGN.“Really, it’s a 3D, manipulate the world, reach into the scene, do what you want type of controller that didn’t exist before.”

“This is a different way to navigate a 3D space.”

Of the motion controllers, Move is probably the one that interests me most, as far as games are concerned. Sure, it really is more than just influenced by the Wii’s controller, but the increased accuracy and improved spacial recognition lends itself to more gamers games.

Move is scheduled to release in Europe on September 15, the US on September 19 and Japan on October 21.

Xbox Live Deal of the Week – Borderlands DLC

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

I’ve been playing the Move demo disk since yesterday, and I can only conclude that PS Move is pretty nifty.

It’s the simple things in life that I enjoy and the fact that the move controller has some weight to it, actually brings me joy. It feels sturdy and even though the globe sometimes glows purple, I never doubted my manliness.

Jokes aside, the move controller is extremely responsive with the PS3′s xmb, and the PS Eye camera is decent.

The demos are basically what you’d expect. Nothing really blew me away, although Shoot took me back to those old arcade onrail light gun shooters (not really my cup of tea, but the demo is fun). The Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 demo impressed me, even though the calibration process felt like a chore and golf general bores me to tears. Sports Champions really stood out for me, and depending on how I feel tomorrow I might just go and buy it. Eye Toy Pet is cute, although not my thing, but the wife seems to like it. The other demos are also ok. It’s a mixed bag really.

If I had to give it a rating I would probably say the Move Starter pack is worthy of a B rating (Above average i.e. Good) Although, take into account my bias against motion gaming.

Yeah I must be honest, if I didn’t get Sports Champsions with the Move Demo kit, I wouldn’t have been too impressed… that reminds me, I should play some more Table Tennis later today. If only we could play online…

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

Same here, Sports Champions wasn’t on my radar before, but the table tennis is pretty sweet (did you see you can actually spin the ball as well?), which makes me wonder how the gladiator mode is.

But I really want Resident Evil and/or a move-enabled shooter now. Must kill things!

  • AC!D

I picked up a couple of Moves, a new PS3 slim because my old one is in for repairs, Sports Champions and Resi 5 Move edition. It funny that BT had Resi 5 and no one else seems to have that edition yet so go check out BT games if you want to get Resi 5 Move edition Sir James.

I cant wait to get started but unfortunately i have to set up my new PS3 and charge all the new controllers. Its amazing how light the PS3 slim is. I was scared i was gonna knock it over at one stage. Im not sure i like that. I will give some impressions later on. I must say though i cant stop playing with the little glowing bulbs on the Move. Its so addictive like putty in your hands

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

I thought Resi 5 Move was only releasing here in October? Thanks man, I’ll check with BT in Canal Walk this evening, and maybe get that with Sports Champions.

<– Dying to play some frisby golf though… ho ho ho

  • AC!D

Like i said i was also surprised my pre order was available. Unfortunately the navigation controllers were delayed till October 8th so we will have to make due with the Dualshock for now.

  • Jarred Milner

Nice write up Sir Jiminy Cricket. Glad to see the positive writing. Sadly, I only get to play with my move (wow, much easier to say without worrying about Wii-type jokes) in October, but all the positive feedback has me really excited.

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

Yeah, you’ll have to use the dualshock in one hand and the glowing bulb stick in another for Tiger Woods. It feels a bit strange at first, because the dualshock can be a little unwieldy, but you can live with it for now.

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

The only negative is really the lack of games, but Sports Champions look as though it could be fun (frisbee golf.. weee), but if you’re still a little apprehensive, wait a little for more titles to come out. Just avoid TV Superstars and Kung fu rider, both are ass! :getlost:

  • Milni06

Ye, I like the look of Sports Champion, even if it is just until better games are released. Table Tennis looks great, archery also. Might pick up Start the Party for the Mrs. Other than that I am looking forward to John Daly Golf (Even though I hate golf, just looks fun) and Sorcery!

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

Exactly, and it can’t be worse than the official game for Beijing 2008. I still cry every night for the travesty that was their Judo minigame. :pinch:

  • Sir James vannie Kaap

If EA says Medal of Honor (ugh I really hate this spelling..HONOUR!!) will be Move-enabled, I’ll scream like a little girl at a Justin Bieber concert.

  • Milni06

Firstly, in that case I hope they don’t make it move-enabled :p
Secondly, what the hell were you doing at a Justin Bieber concert?
Thirdly, would be cool, but I am more lookingforward to the RPG Move games (Sorcery et al.)

  • Jimmy “Denny Crane” Lenoir

lol, I hate the american spelling of “honour”, the above should read “ugh I really hate this spelling..it’s HONOUR.. HONOUR!!”

  • Jimmy “Denny Crane” Lenoir

    LOL yeah!

By the way, when you first play the Tumblr demo and you see your controller on screen and the red line guiding line going into the TV from your virtual Move controller, you just can’t help but swing it like it was a lightsabre and go “Zooooooommmm wooooshhh Zoooooooooommm wooooosshhhh”

  • Milni06

Haha, I will keep that in mind, and will certainly give it a try!
